Thanks to Benefit, flawless skin is about to get easier for gorgeous gals with medium and dark skin tones. The line is expanding the shade range of their Hello Flawless SPF 15 Powders ($34 each; arriving on counters this May) with the addition of three new colors.
If the line is new to you, these pressed powders are designed to be layered. What I Crave (a toasted beige for medium skin tones), I’m Haute For Sure (an amber for dark skin tones) and Too Fierce to Beg (a nutmeg, also for dark skin tones) are perfect for everything from light veils of color dusted on with a brush, to heavier applications pressed on with a sponge (like, to disguise imperfections and blotchiness — hey, we’ve all been there). And they make it easy to get as much, or as little, coverage as you need.

Full range of Hello Flawless shades as of May 2011
When the line was introduced last year, the one thing I hoped to see from them was a wider selection of colors. Now, it looks like Benefit has obliged. 🙂

Phat Tuesday!
How was the rest of your day, young lady? The sun decided to come out (yay!) this afternoon, so Tabs took me for a long walk around the neighborhood.
Do you happen to know what this particular plant is (above)? Can you tell by the leaves? Whatever it is, Tabs is absolutely obsessed with it. He’s eaten quite a few of the leaves over the past few months. I think it’s some kind of vegetable, although I haven’t seen any visibly edible parts.
What are you up to tonight? I’m probably just going to exercise and turn in early. I know… Sometimes the excitement is too much to bear. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Oh, if you’re a makeup artist and a Shu Uemura fan, the line has what appears to be a pretty cool contest going on. Entrants in the Mystic Nature Beauty Competition will get the chance to showcase their makeup skills with Shu Uemura products to create looks built around a “Mystic Nature” theme.
The prize — brace yourself — is a spot on the Shu Uemura team! For information on the contest, check out the Shu Uemura Facebook page.
Good luck!

I think that plant is some kinda medicinal herb. My mum used to say it’s good to soothe dry cough. I’ve tasted it…its quite nice 🙂
Nina says
I think that’s oregano.
Vijaya says
Thanks for swatching these. Nutmeg may match me, but I’ll have to double check in-store!

Oh, these look tempting. 🙂 Long time reader, first time commenter. A thought just occurred to me — I have a question about Shu and you seem like you’d be the person I should be asking this. So, I’m in the SF bay area as well, and Shu has long been taken out of Valley Fair, but I just loved their cleansing oil. Do you have any idea if any place in the bay area is still selling it? Maybe in SF or somewhere? Thanks! 🙂

The plant reminds me of mint. haha When I lived in Davis we had a small mint plany growing in our backyard. Yummy for tea. haha

So cute!!! I also have to take my cat out for walks around the yard in a harness. I’m so afraid he’ll run away or get into something he’s not he’s not supposed get into.
Those leaves looks like the stuff that I pick off and put into my Vietnamese Pho noodles. I think they’re mint leaves.

Hmm…addictive behaviour by Tabs…? It’s not catnip, is it? I’m completely clueless about all things green, though I can tell you something about their photosystems, that being the essential knowledge one should have whilst out walking a cat!
So glad Benefit is expanding their range. I personally am ok with the lighter colours since I’m really fair for an Asian, but variety is awesome! I go to Mac and see all the pretty ranges, and then Benefit falls rather flat in comparison. Of course, the packaging does make up for it somewhat 🙂
Kim says
I agree that it looks like mint, but you would know immediately if you picked it (or smelled Tabs’ breath). 🙂 I’ll ask around a bit and let you know if I get a definitive answer!

Hi Karen, which shade matches you best? Just curious bc I’m also a NC35 and this saves me from having to try out a bunch of dif shades 😀

I wish everyone would stop bloggins/talking about benefit products. They test on animals.

The plant looks like a mint to me – quite possibly catnip! That would explain why Tabs is so enamored of it! 😀 Just be careful – I hear ‘nip is a gateway drug.
Kezia says
It’s mint! Like mint flavoured things, Hate the smell of real mint leaves though!:)
candace grubbs says
it looks like mint. cats love mint for some reason my cat likes to smell minty gum lol

Tabs looks so cute in his harness…I’m so glad you don’t let him roam freely, Karen. I had a sweet stray kitty in college who just refused to be an indoor cat and he met a very bad end, which broke my heart. Every cat I’ve had since then has been an indoor one and they’ve all had long, wonderful, healthy lives.
Katherine says
It definitely looks like a mint to me. The mint family includes oregano and catnip, and that may be catnip, though the leaves look a little bit large for catnip.
And Tabs looks so cute in his harness! Did you have a hard time getting him used to it? I want to take my cat on walks but I’m worried that since we didn’t start him with the harness when he was a kitten (and he never wears a collar since he’s an indoor cat), it might be hard to get him used to the harness.
Nina says
ive not used powder or cream to powder foundation in foreverrr!! i used to lve benefit’s some kinda gorgeous though.
as for Tabs and yourself: im glad you had a good meander around your neighborhood. Tabs looks so cute!
Melody says
Hmmm…I was hoping benefit would come out with a lighter shade of Hello Flawless. Maybe next time.
By the way Karen, did you get my reply about the sephora giftcard? I don’t know if my email went through.
Karen says
Yup, you’ve got mail. 🙂

I just bought “I Love Me Ivory” last night, I’ve been using “Never Settle Petal” and it is just too dark for my lack of melanin. it was the first time I saw it in a store where I’m at and was so excited! It’s about damn time BeneFit started to taste the rainbow and make colors for all the lovelies out there!
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
Tabs looks so cute in his little harness! Never tried Hello Flawless, I’m not one for powder foundations, other than Laura Geller’s but I may have to give this one a go.
Trisha says
Oh, i totally want to try these pressed powders. I like the idea of layering. Though I’m always afraid I’m choosing a color that doesn’t match my skin.
sammie says
ooo thats sounds good! even better as they have more shades out! think i may pop over to my local benfit counter 😉 xx
Kayvid says
The plant looks like some kinda basil. My puppy used to eat that plant when he felt unwell in the tummy. Animals know what plants they can eat to cure themselves. Maybe Tabs has some kinda indigestion or nausea issues? I hope he is well 🙂
inaya says
don’t worry about it Karen. it’s just mint :), you could steal from his stash and immerse a few leaves in your morning cuppa tea. I love beginning the day with soothing peppermint tea 🙂

Love Benefit, love these shades, but can they really restrict all skin-tones to three shades?
Wendy says
Its mint, in Mexico we put in in the black beans when we cook them, its especially fragrant in the summertime.
BTW these powders are really yellowish.

Hey Fab K,
If you happen to have Hello Flawless – Honey, will appreciate if you could do comparison swatch between Honey and Amber. Im using Honey, and its quater empty at the moment. Thinking to get new one, but I don’t think Benefit counter in my country has Amber yet. 😉
Kisses for Tabs please!

I just bought never settle petal and me vain champagne. I have light skin with pink and yellow undertones so both colors actually work but combined it looks even more natural. They are both light shades. Petal is more yellow and champagne is more pink. They are both very forgiving so don’t worry if your not sure about the shade. Neither is to yellow or pink! I like the fact that their light shades aren’t pasty white. Gives u a peaches and cream complexion! Beautiful smooth coverage that won’t settle in your lines. Love it!

I’m placing my money on catnip and not just because of the obvious but catnip does look a lot like mint (and the pictures of catnip on google). At least it does in my simple world view. Love the info on the ‘Hello Flawless’ I’ve been curious about it for a while and it was good to see it swatched.
