2011.
Ah, my Halcyon Days…
No, really. Those were my Halcyon days. That’s when I started wearing BECCA Mineral Blush in Damselfly ($32), with the BECCA Halcyon Days Collection.
And I still get the same thrill from it whenever I see it on my cheeks, which is really something else when you think about it. I mean, if after four years, you’re still excited by a shimmery golden coral powder blush — one among countless other shimmery golden coral blushes on the market — you know it has to be a gem.
Damselfly’s lovely luminous finish still looks natural, and it takes it from casual Facebook friend to “in a relationship” status. Before the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes, there was Damselfly, and its appearance was a straight-up revelation.
Its understated sheen makes cheeks glow without glistening, and it’s unmistakeable in pics and in person. I don’t know how Damselfly does what it does, but it usually steals the show whenever I wear it. Even in posts about — oh, I dunno — bright coral glosses or matte reds or out-of-this world nude lipsticks (all of which look amazing with Damselfly, by the way), I get different versions of the same question: “What are you wearing on your cheeks?”
It’s BECCA Damselfly, my friend. BECCA Damselfly. 🙂
Other things I’m wearing in this look…
Eyes — Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Color in Naked Bronze
Lips — BECCA Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Soufflé in Papaya/Topaz
Lashes — Chanel and Estee Lauder
Brows — MAC and Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper & Hair Touch-Up
Liner — BECCA
Shirt — LOFT
With Memorial Day behind us (the unofficial start of summer), now is a great time to get to know BECCA Damselfly (if you don’t know her already). Probably the best time, I’d venture to say, because of what Damselfly can do for bronzed skin.
A warm orangey coral with a hint of red, it looks breathtaking on cheeks with a tan — relaxed, healthy, beachy and very BECCA.
The long-running Unsung Heroes series here on Makeup and Beauty Blog features some of my all-time favorite permanent collection products.
And performance-wise, it’s totally on point, with a nine-hour wear time and a smooth, easy-to-blend formula that behaves well on different skin types. My cheeks bounce back and forth between oily and dry, but Damselfly always blankets them with smooth coverage. There’s never any patchiness at all.
With Damselfly, using a light touch is crucial. It’s packed with pigment, so it can be very easy to apply more than you originally intended the first few times you take it for a spin.
If this happens, don’t worry. If you have a foundation brush nearby (perhaps one you used earlier to apply your base, and thus it already has some product on it), lightly dab it on top of Damselfly and along the edges to tone down the color.
You will not have to try hard to look fabulous in this blush. The formula is flawless, and the color and finish are extremely flattering, especially on warm, bronzy summertime tans. Damselfly is the kind of blush you’re liable to love for years.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Oooh pretty! I only have the shimmering skin perfectors from Becca but I have heard good things about the blush!
I went to TJs today and bought the frozen cod you talked about and have some panko bread crumbs. I can’t wait to make dinner tonight!
Karen says
Hi Elena,
This blush is amazeballs! I could happily wear it every day. 🙂
Ooh, good luck with dinner tonight. Do you happen to have any TJ’s Olive Oil spray? If you spray the tops of the panko crumbs before you put it in the oven it adds a nice crispiness.
Elena says
I don’t but that is a great tip! I’ll have to add it to the list for the next trip there!
Karen says
I use it all the time. Works great for eggs, and it makes it easy to oil baking pans and whatnot.
Have ya found any TJ’s gems lately?
Elena says
The fish turned out well!
I think I already mentioned TJ’s Maple Water. That was an interesting find I really like! Think the same concept as coconut water-hydrating and all that jazz, but with a hint of maple flavor to it. I always buy the yogurt 6 packs TJ’s sells. Oh, and I really like their multi-grain crackers. They are great for spreads/dips/pairing with slices of cheese.
Yesterday I was eyeing their coconut body butter but I passed for now. I know you have reviewed some of their body butters (like the pumpkin one) and some of their scrubs…Now I am kind of regretting not getting that body butter. lol. Til next time!

How pretty! I notice it’s out of stock on the Sephora website. I guess I know why. 🙂
Tatiana says
I have BECCA blush in Flowerchild. Now I think I need this one, too. It’s out of stock on Sephora. Sigh. Thanks for the lemming. 😉

I remember those Halcyon days!! And it’s funny because I’m reading from New to Old so, when I saw the products used in your last post, I saw Damselfly and *immediately* remembered how much you liked it. And, for good reason, because it’s lovely! Then I scroll and it’s its own Unsung Hero! Well done, as always. 🙂
Karen says
I think that you would like this color a lot. It’s got a Chanel Malice vibe, but more corally.
Kim says
I’ll definitely check it out the next time I can do some swatching! 🙂
LindaLibraLoca says
Your smile is so pretty.
And that blush, too.
Karen says
Aww, thank you Linda! XOX
Becca says
Hey Karen! I love the “denim” or “chambray”??? Shirt you’re sportin’?? May I inquire where you got it? It’s great!!
Karen says
Hi Becca,
It’s by LOFT! It’s the drapey chambray softened shirt. I went up a size for a baggy look:

I love all of Becca’s blushes. I have 3 of them, but I wish they would come up with new shades!
Gloria says
Oh Karen! This is such a natural but flattering summer look! I own nothing from BECCA. Maybe this is the time I start to pay attention… I see you wear lots of LOFT pieces recently. Good buy!
Karen says
Hi Gloria,
There are so many wonderful items from the BECCA line! Do you want a few recommendations? I can give you an entire list of the best stuff!
Gloria says
Please! Please give me THE LIST and let my wallet cry!
I think I don’t have anything from BECCA is mainly due to that I don’t like too shimmery/glowy look in general. Houston area is so humid that I always want more matte/ powdery finish. But I’m open to all the great stuff so bring it on!!
Btw, happy Friday to you and Tabs!
PS (this girl cannot stop…)
Do you have a post about your all time fav foundation?? I recently tried a couple from YSL, CPB, Giorgio Armani, but couldn’t decide which one to go. I’d like to see your fave if you have a list.
Thanks!
Karen says
Hi Gloria,
Sure! I have a couple round up posts that with my faves:

Gloria says
Thanks, Karen! I definitely will check them out. The Diorskin nude and Mac Pro nourishing have been mentioned a lot recently. I never tried Dior foundation so now am very curious! I’ll let you know if I ended up loving anything in your list.
