Stop letting lost tubes of lipgloss languish at the bottom of your luggage on trips. Next time you travel, keep them and the rest of your makeup safe and sound (and organized) in a clear pencil case. With back-to-school season coming up, you might even be able to find them on sale. 🙂
I’d been using Urban Decay’s voluminous Quinceañera makeup bag to store my face paint on my last couple of trips because of how wonderfully cute and spacious it is (fits all of my foundation, eyeshadows, brushes AND the kitchen sink), but it was a little tricky locating specific products buried within the roomy bag.
I usually ended up just dumping the contents on the bed and sifting through the pile. Not a great system, and it was only matter of time before something rolled off the bed only to get accidentally left behind.
Enter the see-through zippered pencil case. It’s clear, so I can easily spot whatever I’m looking for, and it’s built for travel.
Well…it’s built for binders, but it works great for travel. 🙂
These are made with children in mind, so they’re pretty durable, inexpensive and easy to clean. I found the one shown above on sale at Target for 50 cents. If you like to have lots of makeup options when you travel, it’d almost be a shame not to get three or four (one pouch for your lipglosses, another pouch for blushes, etc.).
Adventures in dinner!
I never thought I’d actually say this, but I really missed my stove last weekend… After days of bagels, bananas and Balance Bars, I needed something to cook.
So tonight, it’s just me, my kitchen and a Cheesy Veggie Pasta recipe from the September issue of Women’s Health. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
I don’t subscribe to Women’s Health, but I think I might now. I picked up an issue yesterday while I was stuck at the airport and read it from cover to cover twice. It’s been years since the last time I read it, but it’s not a bad magazine at all. Lots of healthy recipes, a fall style guide, great photography and a very enlightening piece on genetically modified food.
Do you subscribe to any magazines? Right now I’m getting Real Simple and Better Homes & Gardens.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Almost forgot! Did you catch the last True Blood and Project Runway episodes? I’m watching them tonight, so by Wednesday morning I’ll be all caught up and ready to dish. 🙂

Good tip. this could also be used as a storage solution for people that are short on space but want to keep like items together! These clear pencil cases are super inexpensive. yay!
Karen says
Great idea, Jenn! The nerd in me wants to put them in binders, LOL!
Solangel says
Oooh you’re going to LOVE True Blood 😉 Also, that pasta dish looks awesomely tasty :O
Karen says
I can’t wait! We’ll have to dish tomorrow.
What did you end up having for dinner?
Amber says
I used to get Women’s Health! I really enjoyed it, but after a couple years, I felt like I’d seen every article twice. These days I can’t find time to sit down with a magazine, so the only ones I get are Allure and the magazine that comes with my Toastmasters membership. I save them for traveling or weekends by my parents’ pool.

Welcome back, Karen! We’ll definitely have to dish on Project Runway! You know I’m obsessed.
Speaking of dish, that pasta dish looks yummy! It’s making me hungry!

I used to use clear pencil cases till it started smudging and get dirty from fingerprints and fall-outs from powder.
Jenn says
Hah. I brought wayyy more than I needed on my weekend to Paris. Wish I had packed a lighter makeup bag 🙂

Such a great idea! True Blood was great this week!
laksh says
They shouldnt have finished the last episode of true blood the way they did!, cant wait a whole week to find out what happened 🙁
I also put my makeup in a zip lock bag when I travel, mostly got into that habit because of the airport security and now sticking to it even for road trips. Makes it easier to locate things!
Nina says
ohh the recipe sounds great! and so does the clear plastic case idea!
i get women’s health every month – i made a forever 21 order and somehow ended up w/ a 12 month subscription. i have to read my current issue to find that recipe!
Vijaya says
I find that the clear plastic cases don’t last as long, so I use one made of nylon but with a clear window, if you’ve ever seen those?
Rachael says
I’m gonna have to remember that for when the boyfriend and I go on holiday to Maui in January

I got the Sassy from Caboodles and can honestly say it will be the best travel bag. It has elastic slots and tons of pockets. The center portion has pockets on both sides and it removable if you need to. It has firm sides but not hard plastic. I was going to get a traditional train case but felt they just aren’t the right shape inside for me. I like pockets and slots so nothing moves around. I think it was $17 bucks at Target.

That’s a fabulous idea – I usually use zip lock bags but things do tend to get hidden at the bottom. I’m so sorry about spilling anything TB related yesterday – I should have asked if you’d seen it first! I hope I didn’t spoil it for you. 🙁
My subscription to EW just ran out but I’m sure I’ll renew it with the next kids’ fundraiser. I used to get Fitness and I give them a lot of credit for always finding different workouts and healthy recipes. Since I was already in a routine I liked, I didn’t continue on with it. I think Women’s Health has a bit of everything, so I can see how it would have lasting appeal.

I get a bunch of magazines for free because Forever 21 rotates their free 1-year subscription promotions and I get lots of staples from F21, like cute cotton undies and camis, online without concern they won’t fit. I got Women’s Health this way!

I heart maneki neko kitty!

Great idea about the see-through travel pouch. Easy storage and convenience. I’ll do that in my next trip. Thanks for this, really like how you write interesting beauty topics on your blog. Keep it up, Karen! =)
