April Showers Bring Make Up For Ever Flowers Like the New Uplight Face Luminizer and Aqua Liners: Coming Soon

Published in: Makeup

Beauty confession: I haven’t been drinking enough water this week. I usually try to drink at least 64 oz. a day because — well, you know why. It’s good for your health, and I also think my skin looks plumper, with fewer dry patches, when I’m drinking enough.

The problem is that I’ve been extra lazy lately, and even the effort it takes to raise the bottle to my lips has been more effort than I can spare. Lame, I know.

I hope these two new product lines from Make Up For Ever encourage me to get my H2O on again and WAKE ME UP like a splash of cold water in the face. Both of them have something to do with agua.

Uplight Face Luminizer Gels ($29 each)

The new Uplight Face Luminizers are lightweight gel highlighters that contain more than 70% water. Available now at sephora.com (although they won’t arrive on shelves until April), they’re oil-free, and Make Up For Ever says the high water content enables them to melt right into the skin.

They’re supposed to be multi-talented (like Broadway stars). Apply them alone to highlight specific areas, like your eyelids, lips and cheeks, or mix them with foundation or cream blush to make your full face glow. MUFE says they even work on collar bones, yo.

Among the colors, there are three different finishes — Dewy, Pearly and Sparkling. The Dewy and Pearly ones contain MUFE’s Star Powder for a bold, iridescent effect; the ones in Sparkling contain MUFE Diamond Powder for softer shimmer.

Since my skin naturally looks duller than it did way back in the day, light-reflecting products have become staples in my daily routine. That means I hope these work. :)

Right now I’ve got my heart set on #12 Dewy Golden Warm, which looks to me like a warm version of MAC Strobe? Could it be? WANT!

Aqua Liners ($23 each)

This collection of 15 waterproof, pigmented liquid eyeliners in matte, iridescent and diamond finishes won’t be available until May 12. They’re designed to apply evenly, dry quickly and last all day and night, and MUFE says they don’t just resist water, like at the pool, but they’re also sweat-, tear- and inclement weather-proof, too.

Make Up For Ever artist used the Aqua Liners at last year’sMercedes Benz Fashion Week: Swim shows

The secret to their allegedly awesome resistance to water is something called acrylic copolymer, a hydrophoic macromolecule…

Doesn’t that sound cool? I think that’s the idea. It’s supposed to sound cool, but it’s also supposed to form a water-resistant, flexible film, and Make Up For Ever claims they used more of these fancy polymers than eyeliners usually do.

The Aqua Liners: 15 Colors (yep, they skipped #2)

  • #1 — Diamond Gold
  • #3 — Iridescent Emerald Green
  • #4 — Diamond Lagoon Green
  • #5 — Diamond Turquoise Blue
  • #6 — Iridescent Navy Blue
  • #7 — Diamond Black Purple
  • #8 — Iridescent Electric Purple
  • #9 — Iridescent Fuchsia
  • #10 — Iridescent Red
  • #11 — Diamond Burgundy
  • #12 — Mat Mocha
  • #13 — Mat Black
  • #14 — Diamond Multicolor Black
  • #15 — Iridescent Anthracite
  • #16 — Diamond White

Since, I’m liquid liner challenged, these are gonna have to be user friendly (please!) for me to proficiently use, but the bold-looking colors sure are driving me wild.

Especially that Turquoise Blue…

Can I subscribe?

In other news, I’m going to come clean about something now, and it’s a little embarrassing. You see, I am totally addicted to magazines. :)

My mom started me on them when I was young. Back then it was Highlights for Children (remember Goofus and Gallant?), and it’s been all downhill from there, LOL!

I love every time a new glossy arrives in the mail. It makes the grocery store flyers and pre-approved credit card offers considerably less annoying.

One of my favorite rituals takes place every Saturday morning on the couch, where I sit with a big stack of magazines, a huge grin and a hot cup of coffee or tea. Ahh…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

i am going to be all over those aqua liners, that is for sure! :)

  2. Dewy Pink Beige and Dewy Golden Warm are both gorgeous! I can’t decide which one I like better. I love getting my Food & Wine Magazine every month! I always have to eat before I read those though, they make me so hungry o.O

Yay – I ordered 2 of the uplights from sephora.com this am. I needed some retail therapy! I also have a magazine addiction and it drives the hubs insane because they are everywhere, lol.

  4. Heidi says:

Those purple liners look amazing, but, yeah, they’re gonna have to be really easy to use. I can’t seem to get a smooth even line with liquid liners.

    • Karen says:

You are not alone! I have a hard time with most liquid liners, too.

Hmm, have you ever tried gel liner, like the MAC Fluidline? They’re easier to use and you can get a nice crisp line with the right brush.

      • Heidi says:

Yes, I’ve got a few fluidlines and I love the gel liners from Bobbi Brown, too. I use those when I have the patience to dig out a brush! : )

  5. AshBash says:

those liners might make me go over my monthly beauty allowance in may. im excited!

  8. Terri says:

I’ve never tried anything from the MUFE line, but I’m intrigued by the luminizer gels. Do you apply yours all over your face or do you use it more like a highlighter?

I am a recovering magazine addict. I still get a few, but at one point I had around 10 subscriptions to various magazines (Allure, InStyle, Newsweek, Gourmet, Cook’s Illustrated, Rachael Ray, Lucky, The New Yorker, Cook’s Country, The Sondheim Review). I finally cut myself off in an attempt to save money and to minimize distractions so I could focus on my research ;)

    • Karen says:

I haven’t tried these yet, but I’d probably either mix them into my foundation or apply it directly to the skin first and then layer foundation on top. That’s what I usually do with MAC Strobe Cream and it seems to work for me.

How’s your research coming along? Are you getting a lot done?

      • Terri says:

        Hi Karen,

Thanks for the reply! I love that you respond to comments so often :)

The research is slow. I’ve been having a tough time recruiting participants, but I have a series of meetings the next week that I hope will yield some results.

How are things going for you?

        • Karen says:

Things are pretty good. :) I’m just chugging along… I was really hoping to get a bunch of stuff done early on in the week (cleaning, etc.) so I could spend some time fooling around this weekend, but alas, that hasn’t happened. But on the plus side, I’ve been cooking dinner every night, which was one of my goals for the week. Small steps, ya know?

Anywho, is there any way you can pay people to participate? Or is it a matter of finding a specific set of people for your data?

  9. Tracy says:

I’ve been waiting for these! Yay!
I can’t believe this-but I’m addicted to Magazines too lol! I love Self, Real Simple, Health, Allure, Lucky, Nylon…I can go on…

I have been in luuuurve with MUFE ever since I discovered their Duo Mat Powder & HD Foundation, so seeing these makes me super excited! But I’m still a noob – why did they skip #2? =\

    Heart you, Karen!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Jen,

I was wondering the same thing. Sometimes they have odd naming conventions with the numbers that I haven’t been able to quite figure out.

Have you tried their Aqua pencil liners? They’re my favorite.

  11. Crystal says:

OMG. Highlights! Haha. I STILL love going into the dentist office where they have old Highlights. I go right to Goofus & Gallant. I honestly thought I was the only one. Lol! :)

    • Karen says:

LOL, that’s where I started reading them! Before I got completely traumatized I used to kinda like going to the dentist to read Highlights. Goofus & Gallant was my favorite too.

      • Crystal says:

Well actually I used to like going to the dentist much more until they stopped letting me pick my flavor of fluoride. Hey, just because I am 23 doesn’t mean I don’t want Marshmallow Puff or Tutti Frutti fluoride. I mean really! ;)

  12. Emily says:

Those look really similar to the GOSH Extreme Art liners, it should be interesting to compare. I hear you on the mag’s! I am addicted, “I got it from my mama” lol! I have stacks of ‘em, but they are the perfect ME time.

  13. Raquel says:

Could you do a comparison between the luminizers and the NARS highlighters?price/quantity comparison, performance, ect. I would really love it since I want to get some liquid hilghliters for the summer! :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Raquel,

Sure, I can add a little something to the review when I get these in.

      • Bianca says:

        Hi Karen,

i would really like to see your comparison between these luminizers and the new NARS ones as i’m really interested in getting some :)
do ya think that other brands might come out with these babies?

  14. Vicki says:

I like the look of this product range.

And I’m glad you said that about magazines, I’m going through a real magazine phase at the moment. I love sitting down with a magazine and a cup of tea.

  15. Cassie says:

Sweat and weather proof is always a bonus in my books!

I just subscribed to Glamour and Marie Claire for the free gifts that come with subscriptions. I do confess it’s much easier to get the mags through the post than heading to the shops though.

  16. Kim says:

OMG on the Goofus and Gallant. My goodness, you come out with the best blast-from-the-past references! :)

Of course, I’m super interested in anything that is described as dewy, pearly and sparkling. I think Snow White would have been psyched if 3 of the dwarves had those names! :) I’m not so hot on the acrylic copolymer liners, though. We work with a lot of acrylic for displays, etc, and it’s not something I’d like around my eyes (though I’m sure science has made it face-friendly).

  17. Alka says:

I <3 magazines too….but I can't blame my mom for it! It all started in college when I received a free Cosmo subscription. Since then I have always had at least one subscription to either a fashion, fitness or cooking mag. Don't know about you but I still love the feel of a real magazine with the glossy pages – can't get on board with the idea of a digital copy just yet. My current mags are Shape, Weight Watchers, All You, Cooking Light and Lucky. I pass them on to the teachers at my kids schools either to read or use as art projects. LOL – twenty years from now I will be the mom that gets blamed….my kids already have a subscription to Highlights!

  18. Melissa says:

    These. Are. Beautiful!

  19. Jackers says:

    Dear Karen,

I’m obsessed with magazines, too and your Saturday morning ritual sounds like heaven to me!

    Love,

I love Goofus & Gallant!! I thought Gallant was so cute, haha!

  26. applepark says:

Oh snap! My shopping list for IMATS just exploded.

Your Saturday ritual sounds so nice. I love sitting down and reading magazine, but I have a hard time sitting still. Or I speed read through them. Once at the beach, I was surprised to see my gf take all day to get through one issue of Vogue. Do you have any weird magazines that you subscribe to? My one weird one is Runner’s World. I think it’s more as a motivation since I’ve never run more than 7 miles at once in my life.

  28. Melody says:

Can’t wait for these! There are going to be so many highlighters to choose from. I’m totally in for the burgundy liner, too.

  29. Sarah says:

I think that I’m in magazine overload. Right now I have Lucky, Allure, Marie Claire, Bazaar, a local one, Better Homes & Gardens and Birds & Blooms. But I take them on work trips and give them to flight attendants when I’m done with an issue. But there is still always a stack on the coffee table. ;)

  30. Sarah says:

And you’re totally right about Highlights. Good times So it must be my mom’s fault. Although I don’t think she has any magazine subscriptions. Hmmm. ;p

  31. Kimmi says:

Oh Karen, way to add to my already bulging MUFE addiction. I am not back in the US until end of July so I hope none of these are limited edition!
