Are you a bareMinerals fan who fiendishly craves metallic finishes and vivid colors? If you are, July just got a little more exciting. That’s when the brand plans to expand their Prime Time Eyelid Primer line by adding six new shades ($18 each).
The new colors, which, like the brand’s three existing primers, can be worn alone or as bases for cream or powder eyeshadows, promise to increase the wear time of powder and cream products layered on top. They’re designed to postpone creases and fading and should be particularly great for gals with oily skin. The brand’s existing primers include their Prime Time Eyelid Primer (similar to Too Faced Shadow Insurance); a version with a sheer, golden sheen called Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer; and an even lighter version, Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer in Brightening Pearl, which has an iridescent, pearly sheen.
I gave the original Prime Time Eyelid Primer a try a few months ago and remember not falling in love at the time. I had a little trouble blending shadows on top of it, and it creased on me half way through the day (unlike NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, which has been my favorite shadow primer for a while), but these new pigmented versions are convincing me to give the Prime Times another try.
I’d planned to take them for a test drive down to the neighborhood pool last weekend (they’re supposed to be waterproof), but it was chilly…meaning I chickened out. 🙂 I’m curious to see how the pigments handle the water.
For now, here are some quick swatches. Have a look, and let me know what you think.
Swatches from the left: Sundance, Urban Nature, Gunmetal, Racing Green, Chroma Violet and Bronzed Twig
They’re bound for Bare Escentuals Boutiques, Ulta and Sephora stores, and also online (probably this page here) this July.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Speaking of eyeshadow primers, what’s your favorite one right now?
P.P.S. Sleepy sheepy over here… I’m about to zonk out. I have Clueless Tivo’d…but I might even be too tired for that. Wait — no, I’m not. 🙂
Jessi says
Oh these are pretty! I reaaaally hope they are good because I love cream eye shadows. These look pretty pigmented for a primer. I would probably just use them on their own most of the time… if they live up to their promises, that is!
Karen says
I really hope they do! I would love to wear these to the beach or pool. 🙂
Happy Wednesday!
Makeup Morsels says
These sound a little bit like the MAC paints. I really love Sundance, but I’ll reserve judgement until I hear how the wear time is on these 🙂 My favorite primer of the moment is UDPP. I use it so much that the lid cracked in half, and I had to glue it back on.
Karen says
I have a few Paints (LOVE) and these feel slightly thicker and more fluffy.
Glad you were able to glue your lid back together! You’re like makeup McGyver.
Polarbelle says
The colors are very appealing. If they wear as well as the Buxom pots, I’m in!
Right now my favorite base is the mac vibrancy eye base with the prep & pte highlighters over. I also have to mention the Buxom pots and the mac champale paint pots.
Karen says
Oh, I’m going to have to try your combo!
Vijaya says
OMG, these are so going on the wishlist. I love colored primers! Hopefully they perform. =]
Karen says
Yay!
Larie says
Whoa, those are intriguing! Very pretty!
Karen says
The colors are gorgeous, yeah?
Crystal says
I love Lorac’s eye shadow primer right now. I love it!
Karen says
That one’s pretty good!
Audrey says
Seems without tenderness there’s something missing! Tenderness, where is the tenderness, where is it? 🙂
Karen says
LOL!
“”Do you like Billie Holiday?”
“I love him.”
Gawd I love that movie.
Elizabeth says
I WANT SUNDANCE. 🙂
Thanks for the swatches! I can’t wait to try them!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Elizabeth!
Marilyn says
Interesting. I just ran out of my BE eyelid primer because I didn’t wear it all the time. I’m not sure if I’d want to lock in to a color for a primer or just stick with the regular kind if I buy it again.
Karen says
Will let you know if it’s any good!
gio says
These are very pretty! I hope they perform well too.
Karen says
Me too! I can see you rocking the bolder colors.
Jen W says
Wow they’re pigmented! I love how they’re in a tube too. My favourite coloured bases are MAC paintpots, but they dry out in the jar which is a pain.
Karen says
Love those, but yeah, I’m not crazy about how they dry out. Here’s a tip: store the pots upside down. It makes it easier to read the labels, and I think it slows down the drying process.
Kim says
Wow, very colorful. I’m interested to hear your review of how they blend (and last). I have UD Eden and think it’s more versatile than a colored primer, especially since I don’t wear a lot of shadow and I tend to stay toward the neutrals. My only complaint about UD is that it doesn’t glide on as well as I’d like. It reminds me of why I didn’t care for the LM foundation and preferred the Tarte Smooth Operator. I think we might have decided that I’m a silicone fan? 🙂
Karen says
I love Eden too and totally know what you mean about the whole gliding thing. Have you ever tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance? It seems to have a lot of good slip.
Kim says
No, but I will definitely check it out. It’s on the list now! 🙂
Reena says
Oooh… such pretty colors! I can’t wait for this set to come out. 🙂 I’m a big UD fan, but I don’t mind giving these a try. 🙂
Karen says
Which of the UD primers is your fave, Reena? I like Eden!
Tiffany says
Ugh that weirds me out! That was my comment above, but sometimes when I’m on my phone someone else’s info is already filled in. So odd.
Karen says
Hi Tiffany,
I’m really sorry. I’ve been trying to work this issue out — it’s taking forever on the tech end. If you clear the cache on your phone it should take care of it.
Tiffany says
Don’t be sorry! Not your fault! 🙂
Chris25 says
How cool, new eyelid primers! I may have to get a sample before buying. I get the feeling that these may crease on me. :/
Karen says
Me too. 🙁 I really hope they don’t… they’re so pretty!
Nina says
the coloured primers seem interesting but im currently having a love affair with udpp greed. 🙂
Karen says
OOh, that’s a good one! I like it on its own, too!
Nina says
lovely lovely primer! its perfect for days when i dont even wanna bother w/ eyeshadow but dont want flat lids!
Kajal Couture says
I have a slight addiction to paint pots so i don’t know if I could cheat on them…..but there’s nothing against looking and testing, right? =)
Karen says
Nope! It never hurts to just look, LOL!
kiwikiwidragon says
Favorite primer was the tarte firmitol version. Wish it came in a tube. Currently using TF primer since I keep getting deluxe samples of that stuff, I swear I have probably 4 or 5 on reserve and one in use, like it a lot but it doesn’t work for all shadows, its terrible on kvd shadows.
Karen says
I’ve tried that before — I remember liking the texture!
Ann Ci says
I would LOVE for this to work, because nothing could last for more than 4 hours on my oily lids 🙁 The supposed-to-be-amazing MUFE Aqua cream, would crease before lunch time even with Too Faced Shadow Insurance underneath. Am.. almost.. desperate!
JenJ says
Ooooh my! These are pretty! I guess my primer of the moment is Urban Decay. It’s funny because I talked smack about because it wasn’t working me or so it seemed. LOL!! Shadow Insurance was a fav now it seems not to be working on me. I do like BE’s original primer. Still on the hunt for my holy grail eye primer 🙁 Maybe Urban Decay is it and I’m just reluctant to admit it HA!
Iram says
Oooh, they look so tempting! 🙂
Instant Karma says
Sundance looks really pretty. I may have to look at this! Then again, Too Faced and the UD primers work really well on me. Do I really need more?
Haha, Clueless! When I was watching the Law and Order Memorial Day Marathon (oh, Jack McCoy, how I miss you so), the channel kept playing ads for a new show called Franklin and Bash. One of the lawyers is the adorable stoner skateboarder Tai liked! Of course, Law and Order itself has Jeremy Sisto/obnoxious Elton who abandons Cher, leaving her to get mugged…
Mounira says
Urban Behaviour eye shadow primers are my fav!
Kari says
Well, since I think I may have the greasiest eyelids known to man, I haven’t had much luck with any eyelid primer. I’ve been through MAC paints, paint pots, Benefit Stay Don’t Stray, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and now UDPP in Original and Eden. I seem to crease through everything!!! I thought UDPP Original had it as i wore it for 12 hours one day without a crease but today…crease at 3 pm. Sooo, I may try your NARS suggestion…or any other suggestion for that matter. Help!
Delina says
I have just started using Laura Geller’s spackle eye primer and haven’t had enough time to make an opinion. It seems to be fine but I think I would like the colored creme primers. Which brand do you suggest I try for my first one?
ValbonaPro says
SUCH BEAUTIFUL COLORS!
I thought Urban Nature was more “green”. Or maybe it’s my computer that I see a totally different color?
Angel says
Oooohhhh! So excited for these!! The original Prime Time is my HG eye primer. I found it a few years back in my search to find a silicone free primer. I wasn’t a fan of the old applicator tube but the new packaging is great. I know UD is beloved by so many but it didn’t work on my oily eyelids. Neither did Too Faced. Thus my search for silicone free. This is da bomb! Locks everything in place for me all day!! I have the other two, a shimmery platinum and a sparkly gold. I usually wear them on their own when my eyes need a bit of brightening. Really looking forwad to these new shades. Plus you need such a tiny amount that my tubes are lasting forever. Great deal for the price.

I’ve still never seen anything thats made me order BM’s. I have one of their powders and wasn’t keen, I’ll had to pop into the shop where my boyfriend lives (since my town doesn’t stock it) and have a look around. I DO like the look of racing green, I need to rock some more green looks! i bet some of my green shadows would sit nicely ontop of it!!
April says
I know the packaging has nothing to do with how the product performs, but I just do not like the packaging….seems really out of date…
