A Sexy [INSERT PROFESSION HERE] Halloween Makeup Look

So is your sweet tooth ready for Halloween? I’ve been working mine out with caramels this week to get it in shape for Sunday.

For the first time in ages I actually have Halloween plans that don’t involve stuffing my pie hole with mini-Snickers at home. El Hub and I are going to a party on a big @ss boat! — well, technically, it’s a decommissioned aircraft carrier called the USS Hornet, and the party’s called the Monster Bash.

Now I just have to decide on a costume, and I did some brainstorming today…sexy brainstorming. :)

As a fallback, if I haven’t come up with something better, I may swing by the Halloween store to pick up one of those sexy [INSERT PROFESSION HERE] outfits — sexy nurse, sexy librarian, sexy devil or sexy dental hygienist (sexy bee keeper?).

And if that’s the case, I’ll need makeup to fit the part, makeup like this smoldering, shimmery green smokey eye with glossy hot pink lips.

It says, “Hey! I’m in costume! Pay attention to me!” But it’s not too complicated to throw together in a sexy rush.

I used products from the new MAC A Tartan Tale and Chanel Les Tentations holiday collections, with a dusting of makeup from Make Up For Ever, NARS and Fred Farrugia. If you have any similar colors haunting the corridors of your makeup stash, now’s your chance to put them to work!

Here’s a breakdown of the look.

The Eyes Have It!

  • Prep those lids! I used MAC Pearlglide Liner in Undercurrent as a shadow base to add extra oomph! to the pigments and drew a solid block of color on my lids and up into the crease. Then, using a fluffy blending brush, I swept along the edges to diffuse the lines.
  • Darkness reins. With a shadow brush head dampened with MAC Fix+, I patted MAC Pigment in Moonlight Night onto my lids and into the crease.
  • Contrast in the crease. For a colorful twist, I swept MAC Pigment in Teal into the crease with a fluffy domed brush. Then, with a separate clean shadow brush, I drew the color up toward my brow bone to diffuse it and mellow out any harsh lines.
  • Soot down please. To really intensify the smokey, sooty effect, I darkened my waterlines with Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Mat Black 0L.
  • Line! Next, I lined each entire lower lash line with MAC Pearlglide Liner in Undercurrent, topping it with MAC Pearglide Liner in Black Swan.
  • Don’t forget your Halloween masc-ara. I finished the eyes by curling my lashes and adding a few coats of black mascara.

Cheeks and Lips

  • The rest of the look was easier than downing a bag of mini-Snickers (damn those things to hell!). Here, I swept Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel Blush in Tweed Fuchsia on my cheeks, and then popped a layer of NARS Easy Lover on top of Fred Farrugia’s Matte Lip Duo in 06 on my lips.

Where’s my feather boa?

A crazy bold smokey eye isn’t something I’d wear on the regular, but who knows? Maybe I’ll try it the next time I hit a bar or club. Ooh, or Vegas. :)

Some products mentioned in this post…

Looking back at bygone Halloweens…

¡Chipotle, Amiga!

Have I mentioned Chipotle yet? It’s my latest caloric obsession. They’re a national healthy pseudo-Mexican food chain, and by pseudo I mean totally Americanized (but delicious!). Man, I’m craving one of their veggie burritos somethin’ terrible…

What’s your current food obsession? Do you have one? I’m just glad I got over spaghetti tacos. :)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Stay tuned for even more Halloween ideas over the next few days.

    Love the eyes, Karen!
I hated all the “sexy [insert profession here] costumes so I decided not to buy one this year and reuse a dress I have collecting dust in my closet. I’m going to go as Madonna’s “Material Girl”, minus the blond hair and coned breasts :)

  2. Janet says:

    Gorgeous look, girl!

And yeahhh for Chipotle! Their guac is the best–evahhh.

    • Karen says:

GURL, I always get the guac on my burrito.

Have you noticed on the menu how it says you can choose “cheese or sour cream”? That’s so weird to me.

  3. Melissa says:

You look FABULOUS! Great colors on you. I got the tweed Chanel blush, too. It’s amazing. : )

    • Karen says:

      Hi Melissa,

What do you think of the Chanel holiday collection? I really love it, even though it’s not really what you’d consider traditional holiday colors.

      • Melissa says:

I love the eye quad and the hot pink glossimer form the holiday collection…and the hot pink nail polish. Ok, I love it all. : )

        • Karen says:

I still have to get my paws on the polish!

Love that Glossimer too, btw. It kinda reminds me of Astral, which will always and forever be my number one Chanel Glossimer love.

  4. Mrs. Kinne says:

So fun! And, unfortunately for my waistline, my current food love is mini Snickers. (So tiny! And so delicious!)

That’s a great smoky eye look!

There is a Chipotle on practically every corner where I live. I really like their burrito bowls and that cilantro rice is so good! Lately I’ve been doing a lot of baking with pumpkin, but now I’m craving some good ole chocolate. :)

Have fun at your Halloween party!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Ruchita,

The one that’s closest to my house is 10 minutes away. If I could I’d eat there EVERY DAY!

What have you been making with pumpkin? Speaking of pumpkin, I just picked up a jar of Pumpkin Butter from Trader Joe’s and it’s so good!

      • Ruchita says:

Yes, it’s dangerous when your food obsession is close by!

I had a huge can of pupmkin puree to use up, so I made pumpkin brownies with cream chese icing, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, and pumpkin iced cookies.

I took the majority of the treats to work, b/c I have a major sweet tooth and I would probably eat way too much if all those things were at home. :)

  7. mandy says:

Man! I wasn’t going to buy anything from MAC a Tartan Tale … But seeing this look makes me want the pigments and pearl glides!!! I LOVE this look :)

    That is HAWT!

I <3 the hat whc goes perfectly with the entire makeup look! :D

    Sexy ROCKER!!!

  11. OOh I love a teal smoky eye!

I refuse to give in to the Halloween giants and spend tons of money on a skimpy costume that I am going to wear for only a few hours. I usually get creative, but this year I am going with an old devil’s costume, that…shock….actually covers most of my arms and legs!!

OMG! My dad, who passed away ten years ago, was stationed on the USS Hornet when he was in the Navy. I have photos of him and his Navy buddies in Hawaii and Guam on that carrier in the late 50′s and early 60′s. He had always wondered what they had done with it in his later years. Wish he was still here to hear your story…he would have gotten a kick out of it. Would love to see photos posted, if you can. Have fun, Karen!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Susan,

I’ll try to grab as many snapshots as I can… hopefully they’ll allow pics! You never know when military stuff is involved.

I’m sorry your dad is gone, but that’s cool you have photos of him from back then! I get a kick out of seeing pictures of my parents as young people.

  13. justjillian says:

teal is definitely a fantastic color on your eyes!!!

  14. Beth says:

You look fabulous! Makeup is my favorite part of Halloween. I truly think you can make something out of nothing when you use the right makeup.

  15. Kim says:

You’re putting Lafayette to shame with that sexy look, hookah! :)

My costume this year is a red Star Trek dress (costume exchange with a friend). I’m planning to be the anonymous Red Shirt who gets killed after 5 minutes of being on the hostile planet. That way when my “sexy, smokey eye” turns out like “frightening zombie”, I’ll have a plausible story to tell. Btw, I’m thinking of Farrah Fawcett 70s feathered hair, since it’s “original Star Trek”. Opinions? :)

  16. Kelly says:

Love that look Karen, I would want to wear that to work, haha!

Have fun at the Monster Mash, that sounds cool.

A Chipotle opened up about 5 mins from my house. My first experience wasn’t the best but then I went back and got a chicken burrito sans salsa & guac (I don’t like jalapenos) and it was SO yum!

love the teal smokiness! hawt! For Halloween I’m not big on the sexy-ification of professions into costumes…I prefer silly homemade costumes, and my 2 favorites we are as far from sexy as you can get. Both were “paired” costumes with the hubby. One year we were Trash (him) and a trashcan (me). my most favorite was the chicken (him) and Egg (me). Homemade paper maiche egg…it was epic..

    • Karen says:

I’m not either… I just think they’re really, really funny. I’ll probably end up smearing zombie makeup all over my mug and calling it a night.

And haha re: your egg costume. How did you manage to sit down?!

  18. lexi says:

If I did get off my lazy arse to get a costume together I’ll go as a “sexy garbage lady” or “sexy baby poop cleaner” I’m over the whole “sexy” costume getups – I guess age has gotten the best of me. Halloween will always be my favorite Holiday because I love seeing people in costumes – the more outlandish, funny and ironic – the BETTER!!!

I love Chipotle – I just wish they knew how to wrap a burrito. I guess I’m just spoiled by the Taquerias in the Mission!

  19. Nikkia says:

You look hot!!!! Loving this look, very pretty that Fred Farrugia Matte Lip Duo in 06 is amazing especially paired with the teal smokey eye!

My current food obsession is Good Humor Chocolate eclairs and Nutella, You and another twitter friend put me onto it and I’ve been hooked ever since

  22. Lisa S. says:

Arghhhh, I bought a bunch of MAC A Tarten Tale stuff last night and DIDN”T pick up any of the pearl glides.
I’m actually kicking myself and might have to go back and order a couple. They are GORGE!

    • Lisa S. says:

Ok lack of Pearl glide taken care of. I just ordered Black Swan!

      • Karen says:

Yay! It’s a really beautiful color and I think you’ll like it.

Do you wear smokey eyes often? If you do you can have a lot of fun experimenting with different colors and layering.

    • Karen says:

      Soo what’s in your haul?

      • Lisa S. says:

I do indeed do a smokey eye, I love to do a brown smokey for day and a darker grey or purple for evening. I think this would be lovely for the grey or purple.

As for ordering, I ordered: Courting Lilac and The Faerie Glen lipstick, Gone Romancin’ Dazzleglass cream, 6 Dashing Lassies, eyeshadow, Style Clan Nail polish and today of course I ordered the Pearl Glide in Black Swan.

I really want the Scottish Fling exclusive tin that isn’t available yet, even though I already have the paint pot in Fresco Rose and the Minerlize shadow in Pink Split. I’m wanting to try the mascara and the lipglass in Budding Romance and of course I want the tin!

        • Karen says:

What a nice haul! You’ll have so many pretty holiday looks with all of those items. :)

Hmm, if you order the tin you could always give Fresco Rose to a friend as a gift!

now, what you need to tell me is where you got that hat, lol!!
Speaking of Chipotle, after a good 2 months of steak burrito bowls (I kid you not!), i’m officialy sober. It’s been awhile since i had that bowl of delishness and now i’m just going to go get some! (i will literally be walking out my job in 5 minutes to get one, heh)

    • Karen says:

I actually ended up eating another veggie burrito last night! I need to slooow down before I get Chipotle overload!

As for the hat, it’s from H&M. Got it for $13!

      • MAUI says:

So i’m definitely going to H&M for that and lots of other things!
And, i had my ever favorite steak burrito bowl last night (i was not kidding when i said i was gnna get one!, lol)

  30. steph b says:

What gorgeous eyes! One day I will have the courage to wear something like that.

Have you had Baja Fresh? They are more Cal-Mex and I think they kick Chipotle’s butt. Any place that gives me fresh lime to squeeze over my taco is good with me. Very dangerous having them down the street.

    • Karen says:

Yeah, there’s a Baja Fresh at the mall two towns away from me. I had a shrimp thing-a-ma-bobber years ago and got a tummy ache. :( But maybe that was an isolated incident…

Anyway, you gotta try this look someday. Even if it’s just to putter around the house while you’re doing your at-home pedi!

  31. Karen, LOVE the makeup – you should totally go as an 80′s rock chick or as a member of Run-DMC. That hat is AWESOME! I had the toss up between going as a vampire and going as a witch. I did a Twitter vote and everyone suggested witch. I may still try to wear the fangs so I’m a vamp-witch. I think I’m going to do a killer smoky eye and red lips. I haven’t been a vampire or a witch in my adult life but I have a black satin brocade corset and a black satin pencil skirt so totally appropriate for Halloween clubbing. I’m going to a Halloween party on Sunday that my friend’s in the neighborhood are throwing so I will prob wear my black dress I wore to a semi-formal last weekend for that and just do killer makeup and the witch hat.

I’m hoping my arsenal of Silver Ring, Electra, Moth Brown, Carbon, and Black Tied shadows will be enough to do a killer smokey eye paired with either Ruby Woo or MAC Red on the lips. Thinking of using the black cream stuff in one of those cheapy Halloween makeup kits I have as a base for the smokey eye but still use my Benefit Stay Don’t Stray paired with RVSP Creaseless Cream on top as a base. RVSP is my first Creaseless Cream but I want more in my arsenal fo’ sho. :-D

I’m so glad to hear you’re liking RSVP. It’s really pretty by itself on the lid with a thick black cat eye line.

Have fun at your party on Sat! Can’t wait to see the pics of your vamp witch costume! :D
