Bobbi’s new collection is hot! Hot in name, because it’s called the “Hot Collection,” and hot in person.
I mean really, when I opened that eyeshadow palette and saw that hot pink bezel bumping up against those gorgeous nudes (um, why did that sound so naughty?), I was like, “smokin’!” Throw in a few high-voltage lip colors (BAM!) and some chic cheek palettes (POW!), and I start getting hot like that time I thought I accidentally locked myself alone in the sauna at a spa and started to panic.
“Sszzzt!” Or is it “zzhht”?
Why is it so hard to make a sizzling sound in print?
I don’t know…but I do know that if we rolled up to a Bobbi Brown counter and saw these beauties posting up on a display, I’d lick my finger, point at the collection and make that “sszzzt!” sizzling sound like a skillet with hot fajitas. Then I’d say something cheese-ball like “Muy caliente, mami!” in the worst Spanish accent ever (“Accent could use some improvement” is what my Español teacher usually wrote in the notes after oral exams).
So, the collection comes out next month, which still qualifies it for official spring collection status, but I’m getting summer vibes. The hot pink packaging for the nude eyeshadow palette and the bold orange, berry and pink lips seem beachside chic to me, which kinda makes sense since it’s a collaboration with model Kate Upon and was inspired by her Florida hometown.
If you like lined nude eyes, bright lips and softly defined cheeks, that’s what the 11-piece Hot Collection’s all about.
Kate and Bobbi dreamed up the effortless summery pieces to help women (and men!) strut more confidently. Shoulders back, head up, smile on, WERK!
Now, for the Hot Nudes Eye Palette…seriously, if every makeup company could just pop their nude shadows into hot pink palettes for the rest of my life, I would be totally OK with that.
This all-purpose eye palette does anything and everything — smokey, subtle, sultry, you name it. It features four re-promoted shades from the permanent line (Eye Shadow in Ivory, Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Smoke, Eye Sparkle Eye Shadow in Cement and Metallic Eye Shadow in Nude Glow), as well as four new colors (Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Peach Sugar, Eye Shadow in Petal, Metallic Eye Shadow in Bronzed Beige and Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow in Blackest Brown), and all eight of them wearable.
If you’ve been following Bobbi for a while, you may be experiencing déjà vu, but what I like about this particular palette is how the mid-toned shades are close to each other on the color spectrum (not too contrasty), which makes blending them about 1,000 times easier.
I keep grabbing this palette for everyday looks, especially with black winged liner, because 1) I don’t have to think too hard (always a plus) and 2) because there are quite a few different finishes represented, including glitter, shimmer, metallic and matte.
By the way, there’s also a re-promoted black liquid liner in the collection called Ink Liner in Blackest Black ($28).
As for the lips…THE LIPS! Agh! I don’t even know where to start.
OK, you know what they say — when in doubt, go with hot pink, and for me, I’m all about the Art Stick in Hot Pink ($26).
I wore it the other day, and two (yup, two) makeup artists that I ran into said (in so many words), “Homegirl, I need to know what’s on your lips!”
It’s not just about the amount of pigment, either, or the vibrant hot pink color. It’s something else… The finish. It’s matte, but not a flat matte. All of the Art Sticks have that finish.
Oh, did a mention that the Art Sticks are huge? Because they are. Good thing each one comes with a pencil sharpener that fits.
They’re also pretty darned moisturizing as far as matte lipsticks go, and they last five to six hours on my lips.
I know, Hot Pink looks a lot like Hot Berry. If you’re trying to decide between the two, Hot Berry looks a little bluer to me (similar to MAC’s Girl About Town). I think Hot Pink has more yellow.
I’d go with Hot Berry if you like cool tones and Hot Pink if you prefer warm.
Hot Berry, Hot Pink and Hot Orange (which looks a little like MAC Lady Danger) are all new and limited edition shades.
If you like your lip colors less opaque, check out the new Sheer Lip Colors ($26 each). They might be more your style. There’s Berry, Pink and Orange in the collection, and they’re all limited edition.
These may be called “sheer,” in “air quotes,” but I can still see the colors when I’m wearing them, so thank you, Bobbi and Kate, for addressing one of the problems of my pigmented lip life (my lips are naturally pretty pigmented).
These are so are fab. I’ve tried two of the three shades, Berry and Orange, and they’re both super moisturizing, smooth and last on my lips up to four hours. I’m gonna call these the universal crowd pleasers. Folks of all ages can — and should! — go there.
Question: what would a Hot Collection be without cheek color?
Answer: lukewarm.
Haha! 🙂 Thank you, thank you! I’ll be back for another set later tonight.
Lame comedy club jokes aside, let’s talk cheeks.
Three limited edition cheek palettes, each with two shades of blush and a highlighter, tie up the collection in a neat little bow. Choose form Calypso, Pink or Berry ($45 each), which I haven’t seen yet in person, but I hope to see and swatch them when I swing by Nordies to torture myself this weekend (that’s what shopping for skinny jeans feels like sometimes).
Want to heat things up with the Hot Collection? Yeah, I feel you dawg. You’ll find the 11-piece collection burning up on Bobbi Brown counters and online this March.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen says
Hi Divya,
Thank you! Happy Friday!
Ankita@corallista says
You look so fresh and spring-ready Karen! Those Art sticks are gorgeous! I was wondering if you have tried the new blush trios?
Karen says
Hi Ankita,
I haven’t yet, but I hope to soon! 😀
Vanessa says
Your hair and makeup are so beautiful in these pictures. I’d love a breakdown — including eyebrows! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Vanessa,
Sure thing! Here’s the list of everything I used.
Bobbi Brown Illuminating Moisture Balm — all over face
Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer — cheeks
NARS All Day Luminous Foundation Stromboli mixed with L’Oreal True Match Lumi in Sun Beige — forehead, cheeks, nose and around the mouth with fingers and then buffed down with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush (I also mixed in a little bit of NARS Concealers in Biscuit and Ginger to this and applied it around the cheeks for extra coverage)
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Tan — all over face to set foundation
Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer — under eyes
NARS Concealer in Ginger mixed with Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Medium — under eyes
NARS Pro Prime Eye Primer — lids
Bobbi Brown Hot Nudes Eye Palette — Ivory (all over lids), Nude Petal (crease), Bronzed Beige (inner lid), Smoke (outer lid), Cement (pressed onto center of the lids with a finger) and Blackest Brown (lower lash line)
Hourglass Eye Kohl — water lines
Tom Ford Liquid Liner — upper lash lines
Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown and Anastasia Clear Brow Gel — brows
NARS Dual Intensity Blush in Adoration — cheeks (I mixed both the lighter and darker pink shades together)
Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Bronze — cheeks, outer edge of face, across nose and neck (I actually did this after the blush so that the blush would peek through the bronzer)
Sephora MicroSmooth Baked Sculpting Trio in Sublime — upper cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and above and below the arch of the brow
Buxom Blackest Black Mascara topped with YSL Faux Cis — upper and lower lashes
Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Hot Pink — lips
WHEW! It takes a village, for real!
Vanessa says
Love it!! Thank you so much for going through the list 😀
Agata says
You look so beautiful Karen, really loving the pictures. I have seen those Art Stick on Melissa’s (Kiss& Makeup Blog) and I wanted the Hot berry then, now I want it even more. I think pinks with blue undertones look better on me. I am a little worried this color may be too much but I will try to find it at a BB counter to see it in person first.
Anyways, a really beautiful collection!
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Long live blue-based pinks! Please tell me you’ve tried MAC Girl About Town. It might be bold on you but I think it would look amazing.
Happy Friday!
Agata says
Umm, I haven’t. Isn’t it similar to Kelly Yum Yum from Osbourne’s collection?
Karen says
Kinda! Candy Yum Yum has a matte finish, while Kelly Yum Yum is Satin. I find Candy easier to wear (for some reason Kelly looks very dry on my lips).
Anywho, check it out. There is also a matching lip liner and a Lipglass!
Kiss & Make-up says
It’s such a pretty palette, huh? I love how they added that touch of hot pink 🙂 I also have Hot Berry and Orange and I really love both.
Karen says
Hi Melissa,
Yes it is! I’m really enjoying it. Glad you were able to pick up the Hot Berry and Orange. Now I think I might be addicted to the Art Sticks, ruh-roh!
Happy Friday to you!
Kate says
Lips and cheeks look fresh and new, eyes look like the same nudes she does. Will check it out
Karen says
Hi Kate,
Awesome, I hope you love the collection!
Jane says
Maybe this comment is not appropriate, but I can’t help it. Your new hair color and style are amazing. I was thinking why do you suddenly look 15 years younger today (no offence, it is just how I feel when I look really great, 15 years younger 🙂 and maybe it is Bobbi Brown makeup, but I tend to think that brighter and darker hair makes your eyes look brighter too. And those lipsticks are so much yours!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
It’s totally fine! Thank you for the nice compliment. I just got my hair done last week so thanks for noticing. 🙂
How are you wearing your hair these days? I’m trying to grow mine out (at least that’s the plan).
Jane says
Hi Karen, I wear mine lazy 🙂 I mean I wash them, let them dry for 2 hours and style a bit, they are curly, so no hard work. Actually I am also trying to grow mine and started to pay more attention to conditioning and add occasionally a leave-in conditioner and mask. I had a very short haircut a year ago, then last spring I asked to cut it in a shape that will look ok while growing (simple “ladder”). Now they are below shoulders already and your question made me think that probably it’s time to give them a cut on the top, so that I have more volume in the right places:) I don’t color, happy with natural black. Maybe it is my imagination, but now I see you wearing more often bright cool/neutral colors than warm nudes because suddenly I want all of your new lipsticks 🙂
Jane says
“Them” means “it”, struggle with English when it comes to hair:)
Naomi Teeter says
It’s amazing how awesome ALL of the lip colors look on your skin tone! You’re right, the Hot Pink Art Stick does look the best, though! I’m pretty inspired now. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Naomi,
You’re so sweet, thank you! I hope that you try Hot Pink and that you love it. 🙂
Happy Friday to ya! What’s in store for the weekend?
Kim says
I agree that the lip colors in particular have a very Florida feel. And I just want to point out that “when in doubt, go with hot pink” is NOT a saying. Who says that? That line (and those bright lip colors) almost made me hide under my desk. HAHA! Kidding, of course, but I’d personally be way more comfortable with the Sheers. You know I’m terrified of bright lips colors. They all look terrific on you, as always. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kim,
That’s totally a saying. It’s only a matter of time before you read it on the side of a box of herbal tea, HAHA!
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
Majick says
Omg,I’m loving those lippies, all of them. I’m not a real BB fan and I have two of her palettes with similar colors but I have to agree the pink in the packaging is really pretty.
Karen says
Hey Majick,
Yeah, the lippies in this collection are FABULOUS! Give the Art Sticks a try; they’re so much fun.
Happy Friday! What’s the plan for the weekend?
masha russia says
I love the packaging. It looks so uplifting to open the eyeshadow palette with the most perfect nudes encased in a pink frame. Plus, the Hot Pink and Berry lip shades are to die for!
Karen says
Hi Masha Russia,
Me too! Gotta love the pop of pink.
Happy Friday. 🙂 What’s the plan for the weekend?
masha russia says
Definitely catch up on some movies in the evenings and Insanity Max 30 at least tomorrow morning. Other than that, just enjoy my life out of the office 🙂
Tulipthecat says
I sooooo need the Art Stick in Hot Berry!
Karen says
Yeah you do!!! Guess what. It was super windy here last night and Tabs was up ALL NIGHT LONG running around the house like a crazypants.
Tulipthecat says
It’s so funny when it gets windy because Tulip stays up all night as well and runs from window to window looking outside. It just started getting windy out here. Last night Tulip was chasing this really small moth around the house. She couldn’t catch it 🙂 I’m sure Tabs is in need of a nap right now. It’s tiring watching the wind!
Karen says
He’s relaxing in his cat tower right now! You’re right, monitoring the house when it’s windy is a hard job.
What are you and Tulip up to this weekend?
Erin says
I like those “Sheer” lipsticks!
Tulipthecat says
I’m going to take my nephew to a birthday party at Chucky Cheese in Fairfield on Saturday and to play with his other cousins in Vallejo. I’ll probably be in the city on Sunday to hang out with my boyfriend.
Tulip will be still searching for that little moth that she was chasing yesterday and probably watching what happens outside now that it’s getting windy.
What are you and Tabs up to this weekend?
Karen says
Wow, I can’t believe Chucky Cheese is still a thing! Did you ever go the one in Hayward? I remember it being a big deal back in the day.
I hope Tulip the mighty hunter finally catches her moth. LOL
Let’s see, Tabs will be napping (obviously) and hanging outside on the hill for multiple supervised visits. We were hoping to get his cat enclosure out on the deck but it depends on if it rains.
Me, I’ll be meeting a friend tomorrow to go workout (we’re going to SoulCycle… I’ve never been!) and then lunch. Sunday will be cleaning day and a movie date with El Hub.
Have fun with your nephew and eat some birthday cake for me!
Tulipthecat says
I do remember going to the one in Hayward near Toys R Us. Although when I was little the big thing was a place called O’Farrell’s/ They had one at Southland and one in fremont. I remember going there for birthday parties.
Have fun working out with your friend. I’ve never gone to Soul Cycle either. I need to start training for the Disneyland half marathon in LA.
Karen says
Yeah, near the haunted Toys R Us! At least that was the rumor at our school!
Remember when Southland had an ice skating rink?
When is the Disneyland half? YOU CAN DO IT!
Kwmechelle says
The Art Sticks are soooooo pretty! The colors scream beach, sun, spring, summer. Don’t tell anyone, but I have a super cute Juicy Couture bathing suit that would pair lovely with Hot Orange. And since I’ve nothing orange in my stash, and you keep showcasing beautiful orange lippies on your site, I may need to go & try it on. Super score that it’s long-wearing & moisturizing. My lips will look good & thank me 🙂
Tulipthecat says
That’s right…I forgot that Toys R Us was haunted. I haven’t been over there for a while. I used to go to Sizzler over there.
I remember when Southland had the ice skating rink and the windows to look in were circular so it was like looking into a submarine.
The disneyland half is labor day weekend. My best friend is doing the Dumbo duo which is a 10K on Saturday and the half on Sunday.
Karen says
Yeah! That was the urban legend. I never experienced anything creepy there although my family never shopped there (we went to the one in Newpark).
I remember the windows for the ice skating rink too. Did you ever ice skate there? I never got the chance. I did go roller skating a ton at the old roller rink in Fremont. Do you remember that one?
Good luck with your half. I hope it’s not too hot!
Chelsea says
Hot Orange is amazeballs! I love the look of this eyeshadow palette.
Fancie says
Those Art Sticks are everything!! I totally want the hot pink and orange ones. So beautiful!
Tulipthecat says
The Chucky Cheese over there was always creepy to me.
I never ice skated there but I did go to an old roller rink but the one I went to was on Mission in Hayward. I don’t remember one in Fremont.
Poo@beautyandmakeupmatters says
The hot pink base for a nude palette.. is just so amazingg.. <3 .. Love the mix of finishes in the palette!! 🙂
Those Art sticks are drool worthy.. Hot Orange looks ravishing on you and so is the Hot Pink 🙂
And I am in love with your hair and this fresh makeup look.. Going back to stare your gorgeous face again!! 😉
Trude says
Gorgeous on you! I’m looking for a smaller shadow palette to take with me on my vacation, this looks promising.
Annie says
Wow love the review! You look so beautiful and fresh and I think this is exactly what the collection is all about!
I actually splurged on few items last night while checking out the collection at the airport…I got the Hot nudes-palette, Hot orange sheer lip colour and Calypso-palette! I love them all! I have neutral undertones, fair skin with blonde hair and this collection takes me straight to spring! Perfect colours and the new peach sugar eye shadow (which was screaming take me home) compliments my green eyes perfectly! As for the cheek palette and lip colour…bliss can a lady look any better?! Love, love, love…Although I would be tired; a sweep of the blush and lip colour and I look like I just came back from my holiday well rested and glowing.
Couldn’t be more happier although it did set me back a quite a bit of cash…Oh well the things that make me beautiful can never be money wasted, right?! 😀
