Hey, everyone! Today I’m collaborating with the lovely Adia to show you how I wear my foundation (she’ll be sharing her post later tonight), and also try out a new brush I haven’t gotten a chance to work with yet, the Heavenly Luxe Complexion Master, No. 16, from It Cosmetics ($58).
Now, I don’t often wear foundation (I typically go for a lighter coverage BB cream), but when I do want heavier coverage, these are the products I like to use.
First, I start with a moisturized and primed face, and for primer, I go for e.l.f. Poreless Face Primer. It’s a good dupe for Smashbox in my opinion, although the formula seems to have changed recently, because the smell isn’t quite as pleasant as it once was…
This brush has a lot of plusses, but on my first run through with it doing my normal routine, I noticed that I was really dry and cakey.
Then I remembered something Adia recommends sometimes, which is to wet the brush. So, while doing my look for this post, I made sure to spray some rosewater on the brush before buffing it into my makeup.
I could have used setting spray, but the scent and the whole effect of using rosewater are just so much more appealing to me.
The great thing about the Heavenly Luxe brush is the shape. The flat sides are absolutely perfect for buffing product into your skin and for applying dry products, whereas the tapered end is ideal for getting into hard-to-reach areas like the corners of your eyes and the sides of your nose.
But the brush also has a downside. While it claims not to shed…it does. I don’t know if it’s just the one I have, or maybe it needs to be broken in first, but it has shed quite a bit over the several times I’ve used it with liquid products so far.
With my foundation routine, I like to cover up the redness that I get around my cheeks. We’ve been experiencing some really high winds here in NYC this spring, and it doesn’t do my cheeks any good. While the rosewater does work to combat a little of the dryness I experience under my eyes and between my brows, I do still have a little dryness, but a quick spritz of setting spray helps.
I still may have to switch foundations one of these days soon to something more moisturizing.
And there we go! I hope you enjoyed this little look at my foundation routine. Do you happen to use Clinique Stay Matte Oil Free Makeup? Do you have any recommendations for more hydrating foundations? If you do, please let me know in the comments! I’d really appreciate it.

I’m even paler than you are so I know the pain. You should try the new NARS Matte Velvet. A PPP friend of mine is raving about it in IRL. I have yet to try it because matte and me normally only get alone for lipsticks and even that is a stretch.

What bb cream do you recommend? I also like a light coverage. Do you use elf poreless underneath clinique stay matte or all alone?

I used to use the Clinique Stay Matte, but now I have switched to the Clinique Even Better foundation, as I’ve gotten a bit *ahem* older and my skin is more dry than it used to be…
