It’s been like this for a couple weeks now, I think because the weather’s changing, and we had to turn on the heater at night, bluh. So my skin is very, very, very upset about it, and it hurts, especially around my nostrils, where the skin is this close to cracking. It even hurts to smile, so whatever you do, don’t say anything funny… Haha! Ouch! I made myself laugh.
Not fun.
Whenever my skin gets like this, I always turn to Clarins. I’ve been using their moisturizers and serums for years. I also used their Tonic Oil on my tummy when I was pregnant with Connor, and I didn’t get any stretch marks at all. I don’t know if it helped, but who knows? Maybe.
Anywho, I love their moisturizing products, and I know they won’t make my skin freak out while it adjusts to the new fall normal.
Here’s my current Clarins arsenal:
- Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Rich Cream
- Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate
- Clarins Extra-Firming Mask
- Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate
I recently finished a huge bottle of the Double Serum, but the one shown here is the newer version that no longer contains mineral oil. I still like it just as much. It’s a moisturizing anti-aging serum and has been in the line for a few years.
So…anybody else have skin so dry right now that it hurts?! What have you been doing about it?

I once had skin that dry, after several flights and being in and out of airconditioned buildings and layering hydrating mists with hyaluronic serums several times a day really helped me a lot.

Oh, I’m sorry about your dry skin. 🙁 I agree with the change in weather (indoor heat) but you’ve also been trying a ton of skincare stuff. Maybe some of the combos are drying? At least you know how to fix it. Yay, Clarins. 🙂 My skin is never so dry that I need anything super hydrating. Except my LIP skin. Then I do have some go-to faves.

The eye concentrate is something I’d want to try.

Karen, my oily skin experiences dehydration and dryness as the weather turns cooler and I’ve found that best and most cost-effective solution is adding in a few drops of pure apricot kernel oil into my moisturizer. You can also use it on its own. My skin drinks this ish up. My 4 oz bottle’s lasted forever.
You can experiment with other oils sold at the beauty aisles of TJ’s, Sprouts, and Whole Foods. Just make sure they’re cold-pressed and 100% pure. I like jojoba (great for makeup removal), argan, rosehip, marula (this one’s pricier). I want to try safflower seed and squalane, too.

I first realized my skin had become super dry last week when I smiled and the corner of my lip painfully cracked – ugh! I second Clarins for super hydration. Also, my drugstore must-have is Cerave moisturizing cream with its Hyaluronic Acid content. Soothing for sensitive dry skin like I have. My dermatologist recommended it for skin that can get dry and agitated from using Retinol-based products, and I’ve found it’s just great for sealing in moisture any time, regardless of my regimen.

Not sure why my skin is dry lately, but it is. Flakey around the nose, in my smile lines and my chin, too. Weirdly enough, I also sprouted one of those under the skin, big, painful, lumpy zits on my chin.
I really like the new mineral oil free double serum. Mineral oil can make me break out. Not sure I actually see any difference in the amount that comes out when I switch the portion control dial. Or maybe it’s just that my skin is drinking this serum in as fast as I can apply it.

Hydrating serums, plus facial oils, are my skin saviors in such situations. Currently loving the essence toner by Pyungkang Yul, i apply 3 layers when my skin feels extra dry, then top up with a facial oil that’s more occlusive, and wake up next morning with glowy skin =)

Aww, too bad your skin is keeping you from laughing! I have dry skin too, but since I’be used this cleanser (a couple of years now) it’s never dry-dry anymore, but seems to retain a protective layer.

It does not rince completely of, so it needs some getting used to, but I can’t recommend it enough. LOVE this line.

I love that it doesnt have mineral oil now! theres no need for it!
I think a lot of people can be really confused by skin types thinking they are dry but are really just oily with dehydrated skin. I totally agree with you that real true dehydrated skin is the worst because there is no oil to lubricate the skin im lucky that when i was younger i had dry skin thats turned to Combo skin so im pretty happy haha
