Oh, Chanel…
The things you do to me.
Your new Stylo Eyeshadows from the Summer 2015 Collection have left me panting here at my desk, with my tongue hanging out and everything.
This coming from probably the last woman on earth who “needs” (air quotes) another cream stick eyeshadow to love.
As I’ve been cleaning and rearranging my office over the past few days, it has become increasingly clear to me that I apparently adore cream stick eyeshadows, because I keep finding them in the strangest places.
I found one in the back of the hallway closet (?), two in one of my makeup bags (which was, oddly, filled with tiny tubes of half-used hand cream), and one of them in my office supply drawer between the paperclips and Post-Its.
I have no idea how they end up in any of these places, but it needs to stop, because these beauties deserve their own special space.
There’s a very brief, very gentle cooling sensation on my skin when I apply one of these five limited edition twist-up, long-wearing cream shadows, and it’s kind of refreshing.
These are used just like other cream stick shadows. Just apply directly to bare skin or atop primer, and then blend out the edges. You can sheer ’em out for a wash, or build them up in layers for more intense color.
Several makeup lines have something similar (Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier come to mind), but as far as I can recall right now, these are the only ones with a cooling effect.
Chanel has worked with this formula before. Do you remember the limited edition Stylo Eyeshadows from their Summer 2013 Collection? These are just a new crop. Same formula as those 2013 versions, with the same lightweight, easy-to-blend formula and cooling sensation. Like those, these also last for me from 6-8 hours with primer.
I’m really excited about this new batch and the way Chanel plays with shimmer. The finishes range from quiet sheens and sultry satins to full-on foiled metallic, and when you start buffing them? — that’s when the Chanel magic happens.
Which Summer 2015 Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow might be right for you?
- If you love classic summer colors…
Try Azulejo, an intense teal/turquoise blue with a satiny finish.Oh, teal… I’m such a ho for ya. 🙂
Azulejo is bright like a South Pacific lagoon. Of the five colors in the release, I think it’s the one that’s most ready to party.
Looks amazing on lids coupled with a shimmery gold in the inner corners.
- If you love complex colors…
Check out shimmering violet Campanule. Two words: secret shimmer. Don’t be fooled by Campanule’s satiny purple finish when you apply it to your lids. As you buff out the edges, tiny flecks of purple glitter appear.
Don’t fret, though, because it’s classy glitter. In other words, the flecks are small. I can’t really see ’em from afar, but get up in someone’s grill when they’re wearing this, and the little sparkles will say haaaaay!
- If you have brown or hazel eyes…
Give Olivine a try. It’s an unexpectedly complex and unusual satiny olive green, and like the other shades, buffing it out reveals tiny flecks of glitter, which in this case are green and teal. For me, of the five Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows in Summer 2015, Olivine takes the cake. It reminds me of a cream stick version of the epic Chanel Khaki Vert Eyeshadow.
Oh! And hello, inspiration! — I think I need to try layering Olivine under Khaki Vert sometime soon (ideally before sunset today).
- If you love being bold…
Try metallic rose gold Laurier Rose. The shiniest of them all, its finish looks like chrome!Very sexy robot. 🙂
I like to wear the brown shade (Caroube) all over my lids and barely in the crease, and then plant Laurier Rose right in the center of the lid for an unmistakeable focal point.
- And for everyone…
There’s Caroube, a luminous warm brown.Oh, man, this has 10-minute makeup written all over it. I put it on today and started to vibrate out of my chair with excitement.
Yes, I’m the girl who gets stoked over brown eyeshadow.
Warm golden brown Caroube has one of those forgiving soft sheens, and of the five summer shades, I think it’s the most wearable. If you’re looking for something to wear daily, Caroube is the one you want.
Oh, and if you happen to have Chanel New Moon from last summer, it looks incredible with Caroube.
Try it: apply a layer of Caroube on your lids, and pat New Moon on top. Then prepare to faint out of sheer joy.

Hi Karen!
I love the stylo eyeshadows!! I picked up caroube and campanule because I thought they’d look really pretty paired together. Caroube in the crease and outer 1/3 with campanule on the lid. I also picked up Insoumise RCS because it reminded me of Pygmalion (which I’m almost done with 🙁 ) from Summer 2013. It’s similar but not exact, but I love it anyways.

Hi Tiffany,
Your eye look sounds gorgeous! Thanks for the inspiration; I will have to try it this afternoon. 🙂
Do you have New Moon Illusion D’Ombre from last year? It’s very pretty on top of Caroube.
Happy Tuesday!
Tiffany says
Sadly, I did not get New Moon. I wanted that so badly but had to pass 🙁
Karen says
Aww, sadness! Hopefully they’ll repromote it one of these years. And if/when they do Jade Nail Polish also better be up in the mix. LOL
Agata says
Ok, I’m drooling over here! Do I need Campanule or the Laurier Rose? They are too pretty to pass even though a new eyeshadow in any form seems completely redundant…
Karen says
Hi Agata,
I’d check your collection to see if you have a high-shine rose gold metallic. If not, then Laurier Rose. I think it’s the more dramatic of the two.
Agata says
I definitely don’t have anything similar to that rose gold!I love how shiny it is!
Karen says
OK, then go with the rose gold then. I think it’ll play up the blue in your eyes beautifully!
I also vote for adding in a pair of falsies. If you’re gonna do foiled metallic shadow might as well go all the way. 🙂
Agata says
I put it in my shopping Nordstrom cart…Trying to swollow the price tag…Maybe I will wait a few days and if I still want it, then I will get it. I feel bad spending that much money on an eyeshadow…But it’s so pretty! And yes, it would look beautiful with falsies and bronze cheeks!
Karen says
That’s a good strategy. I do the same thing all the time with makeup/clothes/shoes. It works. 🙂

TAKE MY MONEY!! $$$$
lol. I had Blue Bay?? I think from the 2013 release. I bought it before going on a trip over the summer and I can’t find it (and I know it came back with me from my trip). I might have to pick up one of these guys (yes, just one…). Olivine looks very unique.
Karen says
I vote for Olivine! You can layer it with Khaki Vert *wink wink*. 🙂
Elena says
I might need to get one for me, one for my mom. She loves green shadows. And she would never spend so much on something high end like Chanel. love it!
Karen says
I do the same thing with my mom. You have to make sure she uses it, though! I got my mom some Dior nail items last year for Mother’s Day and she just keeps it on display in her bathroom. I have to bug her to use it. LOL!
Elena says
Omg my mom too! I actually had to make her use her tarte blush palette from two holidays ago because it was sitting there unopened in the bathroom. And she just gave me the UD pulp fiction palette back lol.
I just don’t tell her the price of the nicer things so she won’t feel bad! Lol. I know never in a million years would she be shopping at the Chanel/Dio/Tom Ford/insert other fancy expensive brand here counter lol.
Karen says
My mom would freak out too. She’s a retired accountant and very budget-minded. Whenever I mention that it’s not just for display I also remind her that I can get her new ones to replace them! She’s so funny.
You know what you could do if you end up getting a eyeshadow? Do a mini lesson/makeover with your mom. That way you can see her actually using it and then she’ll have an idea of how to work it.

Dammit! That rose gold shade is making eyes at me! Such a beauty.
Karen says
Isn’t it hot schtuff? I think it would look so pretty with black liquid liner and some false lashes. SWOON!
Rachael says
Have you tried the Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop Eye Sticks? It looks really similar to the Chanel stick and has a cooling sensation too – I thought I was crazy the first couple times I tried it, but now that you’ve said this one has a cooling sensation too, I don’t feel like I’m imagining it any more!
Zovesta says
Wow, gorgeous colours. @_@ Azulejo and Laurier Rose are stunning. Laurier Rose reminds me of a more intense Maybelline Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink… and that price tag is just a bit more affordable. 8);
Lauren says
Must have the rose gold!!! Do you think it would look ok w blue eyes? Thanks for another great post!!
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
Yes, I think that shade would look amazing with blue eyes!
Rachel R. says
Very, very pretty, but cream shadows almost always crease on me, even with primer.
Erin says
That rose gold shade is killing it!
Kiss & Make-up says
Laurier Rose looks very pretty in the swatch. I can’t wait to see it in an eye look.
Fran says
Campanule and Olivine are calling my name. I may have to try one of these!
Tatiana says
I thought I was safe from spending more money because I decided to pass on the TF cream shadow duos for the summer. Then you go ahead and post a photo of Caroube. My lemming just kicked back into action. Lol.
LindaLibraLoca says
I love eyeshadow sticks. Or lip crayons. They bring out my inner child, I guess.
Gina says
LAURIER ROSE! OMG! Added to the list. Solo gorgeous!
Erica says
Hi Karen! Great post. Just wanted let you know that the Marc Jacobs twinklepop eyeshadow stick also has a cooling effect. You should definitely try them out! They are by far my favorite cream eyeshadow. 🙂
