Exfoliants have done THE most for my skin

I don’t talk about skin care enough, considering how much time and money I actually invest into it. And I actually get lots of compliments on my skin too! But before I found a regimen that worked, I had a very bad case of cystic acne that would flare up over and over again, like clockwork. The same areas would break out, heal, then break out again.

Caudalie Paris Vinosource Moisturizers

My current nighttime routine helps keep my skin happy, and now my skin is pretty much blemish-free…except for at this very moment, of course, because the Universe is a funny place. But generally these days I only need to focus on healing the damaged skin (can still look red and raw), exfoliating, and moisturizing.

clinique, estee lauder

My current skincare line-up (L-R) Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion, Clinique Charcoal Mask, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum

Skin Prep: The Cleanse

The most important part of my nighttime routine involves removing every stitch of makeup before I go to bed. I won’t go too into detail, but I double cleanse, either using a makeup wipe + cleanser or cleansing water + cleansing oil, and I also always remove my eye makeup separately with a bi-phase product. Sunscreen and waterproof eyeliner remove easier with separate, targeted products, but your skin care products won’t do a thing for you if there’s still makeup sitting on your skin throughout the night.

Layer, Layer, Layer

Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion

Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion

These next few products are the exfoliants and serums I layer under the moisturizer…

Exfoliants have done THE most for my skin. Instead of using a physical scrub, I obsess over my Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion ($14). It’s super gentle but also super effective, and it somehow keeps my skin clear with just a thin layer. If I feel like my skin needs a little boost, I’ll use the Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Clay Mask ($25).

I’m partial to the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum ($92) and Advanced Night Repair Eye Serums ($65), which I’ve seen my mom use, and I always come back to them. I’ve always lived in an “Estee” house, and I have no complaints so far!

Because I layer a few products before my moisturizer, I feel like I can get away with very lightweight moisturizers, and I’ve been enjoying this new one by Caudalie Vinosource ($39).

There are a few to choose from in the line, but the Vinosource Moisturizing Mattifying Fluid is perfect for very oily-skinned girls. It will definitely be my go-to in summer. The rest of the time I like the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet. It’s a gel-cream formulation (looks and feels kind of like yogurt) that never feels too heavy or too light!

Overall, I have oily-normal skin (except in summer, when it’s oilier), but I will pat the Vinosource Moisture Recovery Cream onto the tops of my cheeks, nose, and forehead — the areas that tend to get the driest for me. This one is my favorite of the bunch, even though I don’t need it all over my face.

My one complaint about these moisturizers is the heavy fragrance. They have an unnatural floral, “herb” smell — like they were trying to smell fragrance-free. It’s a shame, especially for a skin care line, but it isn’t a deal breaker for me.

Hope you enjoyed this little look into my bathroom vanity!

What skin care have you been using lately?

See you in the next,

Anna

Caudalie Hand Cream Trio

The new limited edition Caudalie Hand Cream Trio ($25)

If there is such a thing as a Caudalie Hand Cream intervention, I WILL NOT HAVE ANY PART OF IT.

Caudalie Hand Cream

Rollin’ deep

I’ve been unknowingly toting around not one, but two full-size tubes of the original version in my Poverty Flats purse for the past couple of months and only realized it last weekend. But you know what? Instead of taking out one of the tubes, I left them both in there, because you just never know when Z-Day will go down, and it would be such a travesty to not have a really, really great hand cream available. 🙂

Caudalie Hand Cream Trio Box

Please note: the $25 sticker in the upper right on the box is a big ol’ pain to remove!

Those two tubes in my purse may be joined shortly by Caudalie’s new trio of holiday Hand Creams, because I can’t get enough of the three wine grape-themed scents (each one comes in a 1-ounce travel-sized mini tube) in this limited edition set.

Caudalie Hand Cream Trio

The three scents: Feuille de Cassis, Pamplemosse Rose and Miel de Vigne

Just like the original formula, these three are bursting with botanicals and antioxidant-rich grapevine polyphenols to sooth, smooth and repair skin and nails. They’re also free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

Caudalie Hand Cream Trio

They leave my paws lightly scented and feeling soft and smooth…

Good stuff!

Caudalie Hand Cream Trio

These 1-ounce tubes are ready for holiday travel (bag is by Sonia Kashuk)

Unfortunately, if you’re thinking about gifting this trio to someone, stock up on elbow grease, because that $25 sticker on the box is a bear to remove… I scratched up the cute box in the process. 🙁

PRICE: $25

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream Review

Last weekend I did the unthinkable… I encouraged a friend to forgo a caramel cupcake in favor of trying a beauty product.

I know! My sweet tooth was so ashamed, but ever since I picked up Caudalie’s $19 Hand and Nail Cream from Sephora, I’ve felt compelled to push it on all my friends.

“Dude,” I said to her, inches away from the tantalizing treat, “put down that cupcake, because you need to try this hand cream I just got at Sephora.”

Normally, I’d never dream of denying someone the chance to get their sugar on, but that’s how moved I was/am by Caudalie’s cream.

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream Review

I’d been looking for a new anti-aging hand cream for a while when I stumbled upon this one. It’s bursting with beneficial botanicals and antioxidant-rich grapevine polyphenols to help smooth, soothe and repair, but it lacks parabens, and many of the harsh chemicals commonly found in anti-aging creams (NOTE: in the event that you’re sensitive to silicones, it does contain Dimethicone).

It’s just so rich and moisturizing, and yet it absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy film on my hands, that I’ve totally fallen in love. I also dig the light orange scent.

Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Glycerin*, Cetearyl Alcohol*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit*, Glyceryl Stearate*, Tocopheryl Acetate*, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil Unsaponifiables*, Dimethicone, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate*, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Parfum (Fragrance), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract*, Palmitic Acid*, Sodium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Sodium Carboxymethyl Betaglucan, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool. *Origine Vegetale – Plant Origin – Pflanzlichen Urprungs – Origine Vegetale.

sephora.com

It’s a little pricey at $19, but you get a pretty decent amount (2.5 ounces). I also find that I don’t have to use very much.

If you’ve been looking for a new hand cream and find yourself at Sephora one of these days, give it a quick sniff and a try. 🙂

PRICE: $19 for a 2.5-ounce tube
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores and also online
