Hark, what manner of slimming sorcery is this?? Its power is even greater than Nutella’s potent hazelnut hermetics!
Some say that Spanx are forged by magic, and I’m inclined to agree. Selkie’s have been singing the praises of this line of body slimming shape wear for years. There are several different pieces to choose from, but the Slim Cognito Mid-Thigh Bodysuit Shaper wins my personal wardrobe Nobel prize.
But first, a bit about my body. I try to be happy with mine, even though I’ve put on a few pounds over the past year. I’m healthy, after all, and everything works (knock on wood!), and in the grand scheme of things, that’s plenty good enough. Sometimes, though, I do miss being able to wear the cuts of clothing I was able to wear way back when I was thinner. Hence, Slim Cognito Spanx.
About Slim Cognito…
“Maximum compression fabric offers the ultimate control for tummy, hips and thighs, and provides a slight lift for the rear. The innovative style can be attached to your own bra to enhance the no-slip fit of the wide top band. The seamless leg design won’t bind or pinch.”
I discovered the power of this tummy taming monster at my Nordstrom Personal Stylist visit last week, and it was an immediate shock in more ways than one. Sticker shock due to the price — $72 for glorified underwear? Yes, because the proof was in the pudding, or in my case, the Nutella. Wearing Spanx, I felt my mid-section looked the way it did 15 pounds ago.
Over the years, I’ve tried other kinds of shape wear, but these Spanx are the best. I think it may have something to do with their high waist, which sits just below my bra (where it discourages any rolls from sneaking out).
Slim Cognito, available in either beige or black, comes with straps, which connect to a bra to convert it into a bodysuit; however, I think just tucking the waistband underneath my bra looks more seamless (a trick Rachel, a sales associate at Nordstrom, showed me).
There’s an open area at the bottom (it’s designed to be worn sans underwear…), ya know, for when you need to use the loo. Just lift dress; squat, and let nature take its course. 🙂
Because the material stretches it does have some give. I wouldn’t call Slim Cognito uncomfortable to wear, but I do feel encased (like a sausage?) with it on. I think it feels a lot like wearing a wetsuit. Pajama Jeans, they aren’t, but they’re still relatively comfortable.
If you’re prepping for a special occasion or just want to streamline your silhouette, think about giving Spanx Slim Cognito a try.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I lurrrve me some Spanx. I have the Higher Power brief and my goodness does it make a difference – just smooths everything out, sucks in all the rolls and KEEPS them in!! I want to invest in a style without the leg part so I could wear it under shorter skirts without having to worry about peekaboo happening…
I dunno if it’s just me though, but I can’t wear them just on their own… that open area is just a bit too… open haha.

I totally agree. It’s just to open for my liking

I seriously need something like this. I have a ton of baby weight to lose, I’m not allowed to work out yet, none of my clothes fit, and this is all depressing me 🙁

I LOVE my spanx!! They also have bras and other shapers too. The brallelujiah bras are the ONLY bras I wear now. God bless Spanx!!
Christy says
ahh so you did get them! I feel the same way about feeling like I’m wearing a wet suit – so I usually go without Spanx!

I think I may TOO um, plump, for Spanx. I’m sure I would look like a round overstuffed sausage with pudge overflowing from the ends. Oh, and the opening… so it’s just a classier version of crotchless panties? Haha, for some reason that amuses to no end.

Actually, one of my heavier friends (she normally wears 24-26’s) wore spanx for her wedding and it slimmed everything out without any bulges. They are wonderful, but you definitely feel….encased?
Jessi (Lacquered, Painted, Polished) says
Really? Thanks for letting me know. Now I’ll have to try it out.

I have those in black. got a great deal on it on ruelala. they are AWESOME and I want/need more. however, the best feeling in the world is coming home and peeling those babies off 🙂

Hi, Karen! What size did you get?
Emmaline says
I have to wear underwear with mine! I just don’t like the open air round my lady bits when I am wearing a skirt/ dress and it weirds me out wearing pants. I have a pair of no line granny panties I wear with it.

I love my Spanx!! I have quite a collection.

I have a pair that I wear for special occasions. They actually give me added confidence which is always a good thing. But I agree with the comment that the sweetest feeling is peeling them off at the end of the night. 🙂

i own one item from the spanx line — its that thing that you wear to kinda flatten the tummy and little pooch under it. it really does work, but is a bit hard to get into! 🙂
i really should check out more spanx! 🙂

I have this. I fondly call it my “Hot Dog suit”. And I LOVE it! Best $75 I ever spent.
Actually, I have any earlier version that doesn’t have the loops to attach to your bra (which is genius).
Tekoa says
This isn’t for me. Having fabric so close to my skin would drive me crazy. And not wearing underwear? I’d feel downright strange and uncomfortable. Though it makes perfect sense. If the body suit didn’t have an appropriate gap what would you do? Peel it off for every bathroom visit?

I don’t really need the “smoothing” action that Spanx provide since I am on the smallish side, but I do wear them when I have be on my feet all day. It makes me stand up straighter and therefore makes the entire day on my feet easier. Just a tip!
Kim says
Hey, $75 is a bargain if it makes you feel good about how you look! 🙂 I have another brand of shapers (mid-thigh) but they kind of drive me crazy because the waistband has a tendency to slide down. And being that squashed in makes me feel crampy. This version sounds good, though!

I LOVE SPANX! I actually have the exact pair you have, plus a black version that does have the crotch. (which I kinda like, not too convenient for guys, since I always wear undies under them…its kinda like when you pull the first tissue out of the box, and it comes out all mangled? hehe..)
The tan one REALLY sculpts my butt, but it definately feels tighter than the black one. It has way more elastic. I wear it when I work at MAC and wear black dress shirts with black slacks, so my love handles dont hang over, or if Im wearing jeans and a tucked in shirt to a dinner or bar. LOL.
The black one doesn’t do much for my butt and only does an ok but noticable job on my tummy but is way more comfortable. I use it for drag looks since its black and easier to conceal.

I tried this exact style…but man, I just didn’t like it. It gave me a weird shape. I guess I just have too much belly for it to handle, sigh. Also, too hard to get on! Holy moly.

I love me some SPANX – I got no shame. I don’t care who knows. It’s a god send for me under my clingy dresses. I might have to get this version because I have the older one that doesn’t come with straps. $75? Wow I really have to think about that one!

I only wear skirts with the shaper type shorts. Really makes a difference. I also have a yummie tummie tank top I wear under low cut shirts and dresses that is slim if in the torso. Makes a big difference to fit and also covers your lower back when you sit down. So… Hear hear for shapers!

Does anyone have pictures wearing this under a dress? I need something like this under my bridesmaid dress!
