Blush Technique: The Swirl

Published in: Beauty Tips, Video

A few days ago I showed one way to apply blush using a technique called The Bounce (bounce, baby!). Here’s a second method. This one’s nicknamed The Swirl (click for the video).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

P.S. Tabs says hi. He tried to get in on the video action tonight. What a ham!

  4. Fie says:

Haha Tabs doesn’t want to miss out on the fun 😀

Ooh, I should start holding my brushes on the tip, I usually hold them somewhere in the middle.

  6. Karen says:

    Hi Dao,

Tabs is such a camera hog. 🙂 You know he’ll always send you kitty hugs…

  7. Karen says:

    Hi Karen B.,

    You’re welcome!

Tabs sends some kitty kisses. 😉

  8. Karen says:

    Hi Fie,

I know! He always has to be up in the makeup mix. 🙂

I remember learning at a MAC seminar that holding your brushes in the middle works great (I usually hold my eye brushes there). I hold my blush brushes at the end because I’m afraid of putting too much blush on (I’ve done it way too many times, LOL!).

  9. Chris says:

Whoa Tabs – not your shade!
(My kitties are very attracted to brushes so maybe Tabs feels the same way? Loki and Grendal think they would make fabulous kitty toys.)

I love the Bounce (although I have to repeat the following to myself during application: Bounce, and bounce, and bounce, and bounce. Silly!) so ready to move on to the Swirl.

  10. Brittany says:

I love your videos! I really should start holding my brush handles further back, because I’m pretty sure that I hold them too close to the bristles.

    Tabs is too cute 🙂

  11. hazeldazel says:

i lurve your videos! pleeeez do some on how to do a smoky eye or just how to apply eye shadow in general. I love the diagrams but i still get confused.

Tabs is such a cutie pie! 😀

  12. gio says:

Thanks for the tip, I’m going to try it. I tried the bounce as well and it worked great.

    Tabs is so cute!

  13. Dude! You are great! Love these vlogs from you – you didn’t just say “excuse my broke ass manicure” on this video – busting up! I thought you were “testing” polish colors – that’s it right? You were testing new colors!!!!!

  14. Daya says:

    Hey Karen!

Your videos make me laugh! LOL I think the swirl is my usual method. Thanks for the tip on how to hold the brush. I’ll have to remember that tomorrow 🙂

  15. Nadrah says:

Hey Karen, love this video! Tabs wants his own video series, I think!
    Loving the manicure! ;P

  16. JessicaF says:

    I love your manicure comment…HILAR!!!

You know Tabs had to get in on the action cuz in reality, HE’S the star of your blog not you! Didn’t you get the memo? 🙂

  20. Karen says:

    Hi Chris,

Surprisingly Tabs ignores my brushes and most of my makeup. He has a thing for my pink bunny slippers and my pant legs, though. 🙂

What cute names you have for your kitties… aww!

  21. Karen says:

    Hi Brittany,

It makes a huge difference in blush application. When it comes to eye brushes I tend to hold the handles in the middle.

Tabs is such a camera hog!

  22. Karen says:

    Hi Hazeldazel,

Hmm, I’ll see if I can work that out for you!

    Tabs says, “Hi!!”

  23. Karen says:

    Hi Gio,

I’m glad to hear that Da Bounce worked for you!

I think Tabs secretly makes vids when I’m not home.

  24. Karen says:

    Hi Melissa,

LOLOL! Yah, I didn’t realize how weird it looked until I checked it out closely in the mirror. Too bad I’ve been rollin’ around like that for the last two weeks, HA HA!

  25. Karen says:

    Hi Daya,

Yay! It’s a good one, isn’t it? What brush do you like to use? Do you rock the 187, too?

  26. Karen says:

    Hi Nadrah,

Thanks! Let me know if there’s anything you’re interested in me covering.

I think Tabs moonlights as a video blogger, ha!

  27. Karen says:

    Hi JessicaF,

You can also do this with a regular blush brush, too. 🙂

  28. Karen says:

    Hi Lee,

    🙂 Thank you!

I hope you’re having a good week so far!

  29. Karen says:

    Hi Shefali,

LOL… okay, I have to come clean. Tabs actually runs the show. He dictates everything. I am merely his secretary. 🙂

  30. Karen says:

    Hi Katee,

Sure! I’m glad to help. 🙂 Lemme know if/when you try it and how it turns out.
