Urban Decay Spring 2011: Uzi or Gunmetal? You Be the Judge

January 14th, 2011 by Karen 35 Comments

If you’ve been waiting patiently for Urban Decay’s recently released spring 2011 collection to appear online here (urbandecay.com) and here (sephora.com), your wait is over.

If you haven’t yet perused UD’s latest wares, well, what are ya waitin’ for, boo? The collection’s a doozy, and it introduces a handful of new products to the line — products like the Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tints ($24 each; LOVE THESE!), Greed Eyeshadow Primer ($18), the 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils ($20) and the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil 15-Year Anniversary Set ($92).

That reminds me — Jess had a question about Uzi, one of the shimmery liners in the Anniversary Set.

“I was lusting over the swatches you showed of the Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Set and was wondering if there was any significant difference between, say, Uzi and Gunmetal?

I already have several of the colors in the set and am trying to figure out if the new colors are really different or not.”

— Jess M

Funny you should ask, Jess, because I happen to have both shimmery grays close at hand. I’ve been going through a may-jah gray liner phase lately.

Uzi looks a little like Gunmetal to me, but I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect match. I think it’s darker and more taupe, whereas Gunmetal’s more of a classic silver.

Hardcore Urban Decay collectors and others willing/able to appreciate the subtle differences between the two colors may want to spring for both, but, if you already have a solid silver liner, you’re probably already good.

Ladies, have you ever gone through a gray/silver liner phase (I can’t be the only one).

Almost there!

Whew! What a rough week. Too much Top Chef on the laptop in bed. My sleep patterns are all out of whack.

What are you up to this weekend? I plan to spend some quality time with those removable sticky labels and a Sharpie (organizing my office). Exciting, I know!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve been on a silver and gray eyeshadow kick for about two weeks now. Of course, that means that I have to keep my gunmetal close by 🙂

I have gunmetal and like it a lot. I’d like something a bit lighter, too. You know I’m a sucker for silver and white but I haven’t been hitting the silver liner hard since the holidays. I actually need to get some gray shadow (and orange now that I’m obsessed with that Dior promo photo). Oh, and a white liner. 🙂

I was organizing my eyeliners the other day and found a white liner from MAC! Those things are really cool. When I wear cat liner sometimes I like to trace white liner along the black line… it adds a nice pop!

Whatcha got planned for the weekend?

Oh, darn, I just realized that I typed Dior instead of Givenchy. Loved that orange look so much that I got the designer wrong! 🙂

We have a pretty light hockey weekend, but I’ll be playing tomorrow night. We’re planning to have dinner with friends tonight (and download some new tunes) and visit another friend tomorrow afternoon. It should be pretty relaxed. Maybe I’ll even get some cleaning done! How about you? You’ll need a fun reward for organizing your office. 🙂

Btw, have you heard any buzz on Being Human? I think I’m going to check out the BBC version, if possible. Looks like it might be cool!

How have you been storing your makeup lately? I’ve been using plastic bags, labels and these clear drawers I found at Container store. Not very sexy… but practical!

I have an ikea desk turned vanity made up of 2 sets of Alex 5-drawers plus a tabletop. in the drawers I have cheapo white bins. wish I could find some taller bins for the taller drawers. but my main problem is that all the makeup I’ve bought in the past 8 months or so is strewn across the tabletop on in a box on the floor nearby 🙁

I’m also going through a loving grey phase right now. I think the snow and cold are affecting me-but in a good way! I can hardly wait to pick up this set.
Not doing anything this weekend-too much snow going on here!

This winter I’ve been wearing alot of gray clothing. I think it’s just a big softer and more interesting than always going for black. Still looking for that perfect gray liner. These two look promising.

Not much planned for the weekend yet. Grocery shopping and a friend’s birthday party.

I just ordered the 15th anniversary pencil set. I’d been lusting after in ever since I saw your preview post. Actually, that’s how I first connected with your blog! So, Karen. Give it to me straight. If I have that, the UD Black Palette, NAKED, UD BOS III, the Skull palette and the Wallpaper palette, do I even need to LOOK at the new 24/7 jumbo shadow pencils?????

I haven’t used grey liner since I had to toss my beloved Bonne Bell eyeliner that I’d had since….1997, maybe? I bought the Gris Scintillant from Chanel but unfortunately that one’s going back. It faded/migrated too much on me to justify keeping it ($29 for liner is steep!). Plus I think I’d prefer something without so much shimmer, which is why I’m not sure these UD liners would work for me either. Sigh!

Looking forward to the weekend – having margaritas & Mexican food tomorrow night with some girlfriends and then going to a minor league hockey game Sunday with my family. I keep telling myself “31 is a good age, 31 is a good age!” 😀

Hmm that makes me want to get a silver eyeliner! Not sure I could pull it off at work though.
I’d looked at some silver liners by Bourjois (and another brand I can’t remember) but they were almost white, I should give those a try. 🙂

Friday at least! It’s been a hellish week but I’ve just found a week-long internship for a press/media company. 😀 It’s taken me 5 months to get anything!
In other news I finally managed to wax my legs (proud of myself) so now I’ve no excuse for not going for a swim. Should help me relax and get rid of some of that holidays fat, ahem.. Not until Sunday though.
Have a lovely Friday evening everyone!

Karen, you are not alone with the grey…I go through spurts like this….Currently I’m into a Navy smokey eye, for some reason……I think it has to do with Dandizette from MAC!!

Sunday is HOME DEPOT day—paint & stuff for the baby’s room!!

I brought the 24/7 anniversary set . I had the sales lady at sephora get one from the back for me last week since they hadn’t displayed them yet. I’ve only tried the perversion pencil and I love it so dark! I compared it the Mac’s feline pencil and it lasts longer no smudging . I love 24/7 eyeliners!

I notice that everyone else is using gunmetal and going through a gun metal phase today. I think I’ll try that today……maybe even take a photo or two….I own gun metal eyeliner from UD, but I haven’t used it yet lol.

Just wondering if you could do a quick silver/grey liner overview? I’ve been looking for one that I can wear with brown eyes and all the ones I’ve found are too cool toned for my warm colors :p

Thank’s for this post. I am from Paris and I discovered your blog through my Urban Decay liners phase.
I was wondering if there was any difference between Stray Dog and Uzi. I personally can’t see the difference. What about you?
By the way, as I have dark eyes and a medium skin which one is better for me?

    Thank’s for your advices!
    Glad I found your blog!
